16 & Pregnant Alum Dead At 16
Before there was Teen Mom, there was 16 & Pregnant. The hit MTV series followed teenage girls as they prepared to become first-time mothers. Featured on the series were Catelynn Lowell, Kailyn Lowry, Farrah Abraham, and Leah Messer. It documented them sharing that they were pregnant and how everyone reacted, plus what they had to give up to make this all possible. Furthermore, the dads often played an integral role in the show, and it either made or broke the couples. Due to the success, fans wanted to see how the teens handled life in the aftermath of the delivery. Oftentimes, they struggled, or they went on to learn some hard lessons and eventually find their way.
One of the Season 1 featured cast members was Whitney Purvis, who welcomed a son, Weston Gosa Jr. Tragically, he has died at just sixteen years old. Whitney and Weston’s stepmother, Amy Gosa, broke the sad news via social media. Per Amy, he was found unresponsive on Monday, June 2nd, in the early hours of the day:
“We attempted CPR and called an ambulance. The paramedics attempted it as well and took him to the hospital in Gordon County [Georgia] where he was pronounced dead.”
She noted that he had health problems, including diabetes, but at the present moment, the cause of death is unknown.
Some 16 & Pregnant fans may recall that Weston was diagnosed with a genetic disorder as a newborn. His body did not produce enough AAT protein to protect his liver and lungs. However, it seemed he was doing okay. Whitney does not currently have custody of her sons, but had this to say upon losing Weston:
“This is so hard to write. My beautiful son, Weston has passed away. He was only 16 years old. Life is so cruel and unfair. I just don’t understand. Oh my baby is gone and I don’t know what to do with myself. He was so perfect. This is really my worst nightmare come true. How do you go on in life after losing a child?

Viewers will clearly be struggling with this, as Weston is the first child to pass away from the 16 & Pregnant series. Moreover, losing a child is an unimaginable loss, and Whitney Purvis is looking for a reason and the will to go on:
“I’m in disbelief, this cannot be happening. I don’t want it to be real. I would do anything just to hold him. Words just can’t describe the pain I am feeling. I love you so much, Weston Owen Gosa. God, I love you so much. You are my heart. I was so proud of the young man you were becoming. I just can’t go on without you. Rest in Peace, my angel. You are gone too soon. April 2, 2009 – June 2, 2025.”
After learning what happened to Weston, fans and followers headed to Amy Gosa’s page to comment:
