TikTok is the most recent social media space where people post their experiences with the supernatural. The problem is you can’t always trust what you are seeing. In the pursuit of likes and comments (and money), TikTokers have been known to create compelling videos with the use of fishing lines, CGI, and AI technologies.
But late last month, a viral video posted by Katie Santry may be the real deal considering the local police, CSI, and cadaver dogs had to get involved. Santry started to document strange things happening in her house, including disheveled items and a broken computer screen she says has no explanation.
What happened next alerted her something more sinister might be at play. Santry and her husband were building a fence and during the digging process, they struck something soft in the ground. It turned out to be a rolled-up carpet. Furthermore, it was buried beneath a tree.
@katiesantry I think my house is haunted!!!! #ghosthunting #ghosts ♬ original sound – Katie Santry
Sensing something sinister, Santry called the police to investigate the carpet further. They brought in cadaver dogs to search the hole and they both sat down beside it, indicating they smelled blood. This of course caused crime-solving authorities to get involved and after festooning Santry’s property in yellow tape they explored the hole further.
@katiesantry After the dog sat until everything was taped off. Abd now we wait until forensics is here tomorrow. I’m still really hoping maybe someone just had a bloody nose on a rug, and buried it.

TikTok viewers were riveted by the story, and to broaden the intrigue even further, the news media got involved. Was there a decomposed body hidden in the rug?
No. That’s according to police.
@katiesantry Replying to @ɱεℓ ɓ thats that. At first, I really thought this was about to get insane, but after he called his boss, they decided they could not put resources into something unknown. so there we have it the story ends and whatever is in that rug will stay there. Now, back to our regular scheduled programming.🙃 ##hauntedtiktok##hauntedhouse##rug ♬ original sound – Katie Santry
“This should be a sigh of relief, not like a, ‘Oh man.’ This is a good ending,” Santry said during a TikTok Live after the results were revealed. “This is good. I mean, I guess to solve an unsolved case would also be good to, like, bring closure to a family, but let’s do that somewhere that’s not my backyard, preferably.”
Still, viewers were not satisfied with the results, some saying that because Santry’s story was so viral and she was recording the whole thing live, authorities did not tell her the truth as to not interfere with the investigation. One thing that people pointed out is that investigators took the rug with them.
Santry has embraced her viral celebrity since her first video. She has been on TikTok for a long time as a lifestyle vlogger. As with most social media users who become popular, they try to keep the momentum going usually keeping with the theme of what made them popular in the first place.
With any TikToker’s story, it’s best to keep your skeptical cap on. As this story stands, Santry still claims that there is paranormal activity going on in her house, but as far as the buried carpet, there is no evidence that a crime took place. At least, that is the official word from authorities.
