Sony is bringing the Danny Boyle-directed 28 Days Later home for the holidays, available for purchase and rental just in time for Christmas. This comes after the trailer for its sequel, 28 Years Later, garnered massive views upon its release.
The 2002 zombie feature has been unavailable on any streaming services due to rights complications. Apart from its unavailability online, the physical version of 28 Days Later is not in print anymore, making it hard for fans to revisit the horror classic before the follow-up movie hits theaters on January 25.
When is the digital release date for 28 Days Later?
The trailer for 28 Days Later debuted to massive viewership and has even become the second most watched horror trailer. As a result, Deadline reported that Sony is releasing 28 Days Later on digital — available for both purchase and rental — beginning December 18.
The 28 Years Later trailer accumulated a total of 60.2 million global views and currently boasts 146.1 million global views, according to the outlet. It became the second biggest horror trailer of all time, trailing behind It Chapter Two’s 96 million views.
The recent trailer drop garnered more views than the first trailers for The Nun, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Smile 2, and Nosferatu.
28 Days Later centered on a group of animal rights activists who have freed caged infected chimpanzees that have caused the world to be ravaged with zombies. A month after a coma, bike courier Jim wakes up only to find out the world he’s living in has been infested by flesh-eating creatures.
The 2002 feature starred Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, and Brendan Gleeson. It received a follow-up movie back in 2007, titled 28 Weeks Later. The Juan Carlos Fresnadillo-helmed feature starred Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, and Jeremy Renner, among others.
28 Days Later hits digital platforms on December 18.
