Queen Elizabeth and King Charles Disagreed on This Role for the Former Prince Andrew

Queen Elizabeth and King Charles Disagreed on This Role for the Former Prince Andrew

Queen Elizabeth may have been instrumental in the circumstances leading up to the arrest of former Prince Andrew. When he left the Royal Navy, she appointed him a trade envoy, a job he held from 2001 to 2011.

Despite the Queen’s approval of Andrew’s new job, royal author Robert Jobson believes King Charles wasn’t in favor it. At that time, the Prince of Wales didn’t think his younger brother “was qualified” for the job. “With [Andrew] just out of the Navy, he should learn the job first,” Jobson said. “But [Charles] was ignored.”

Because he was the queen’s alleged “favorite son,” she “indulged him.”

Was the Trade Envoy job ex-Prince Andrew’s downfall?

While he was serving as a U.K. trade envoy, Andrew reportedly shared confidential information with his friend Jeffrey Epstein. As a result, he’s now in police custody while officers investigate allegations of misconduct. His arrest amid fears he would “flee” makes Andrew the first British royal in modern history to be arrested.

When Andrew was appointed, the queen “was sharp as a tack,” Jobson told People. “She was surrounded by people whose job it was to protect her, including a prime minister who appointed him.”

British politician Peter Mandelson reportedly pushed for Andrew to get the trade envoy job. Ironically, the Metropolitan Police are also investigating Mandelson for leaking confidential information to Epstein in 2009.

Andrew’s appointment “was vigorously promoted by none other than Peter Mandelson,” says a screenshot of Private Eye shared to X. At the time, Mandelson had resigned from politics, but still had PM Blair’s ear. “Blair overruled the principal opponent of the plan — none other than Andrew’s big brother [Charles].”

Opponents to Andrew’s appointment “suspected [he] would use the post as an excuse to cultivate friendships with the wealthy, chase women and play golf,” the screenshot continued. “It would certainly be interesting to see the notes revealing why Blair ignored His Majesty’s sage advice at the time.”
