Donald Trump is demanding that Susan Rice, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, resign from Netflix’s board of directors, or that the company will “pay the consequences.”
The president’s threat comes as Netflix pursues a potential acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which requires regulatory approval from the Trump Justice Department.
Trump’s angst towards Rice comes in response to comments she made during a recent appearance on the Stay Tuned with Preet podcast. Discussing Trump’s poor poll numbers and the increasing likelihood that Democrats will recapture at least one chamber of Congress in the midterms, Rice said that corporations, law firms, and media entities that previously bent “a knee to Trump” “are now starting to realize, ‘Wait a minute, you know, this is not popular. Trump is not popular.’ What he is doing, whether on the economy and affordability or on immigration, now, is not popular, and that there is likely to be a swing in the other direction, and they are going to be caught with more than their pants down. They’re going to be held accountable by those who come in opposition to Trump and win at the ballot box.”

“If these corporations think that Democrats, when they come back in power, are going to play by the old rules, and say, ‘Never mind, we will forgive you for all the people you fired and all the policies and principles you violated, all the laws you skirted,’ I think they got another thing coming,” Rice added.
Rice’s comments were initially flagged by Trump supporter and conservative commenter Laura Loomer, who wrote on social media that Rice is “threatening half of the country with weaponized government political retribution.”
Quoting Loomer’s post, Trump wrote, “Netflix should fire racist, Trump Deranged Susan Rice, IMMEDIATELY, or pay the consequences. She’s got no talent or skills – Purely a political hack! HER POWER IS GONE, AND WILL NEVER BE BACK. How much is she being paid, and for what??? Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Rice joined the Netflix board in 2018.
