Below Deck Down Under star, Captain Jason Chambers has just shared his cancer diagnosis. The fifty-two-year-old learned the news but still has some testing to be done. So, what kind of cancer does he have and how is he handling it? Keep reading for further details.
Captain Jason Chambers Shares Cancer Diagnosis
From the time he started on Below Deck Down Under, Captain Jason Chambers was not only a hit with viewers but also his fellow Bravolebs. The ladies adore him including RHOBH’s Sutton Stracke, Vanderpump Rules alum, Lala Kent, and RHOM’s Adriana De Moura. She alleged that they met up when Jason was docked in Florida and had a dalliance. So, he has no shortage of ladies to choose from. He is divorced and has a daughter, Saskia but it is unclear if he is actively looking for his next great love. Jason has his hit Bravo series to focus on.
Now, he has another major life situation on his plate and needs all the support that he can get. Jason revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. According to Page Six, Jason shared on his social media that he has Melanoma, a form of skin cancer. He had undergone a biopsy in Bali which came back positive. Therefore, he has opted for a second opinion now that he is home in Australia to ensure accurate results. According to the Mayo Clinic, Melanoma is:
“a kind of skin cancer that starts in the melanocytes. Melanocytes are cells that make the pigment that gives skin its color. The pigment is called melanin.”
One cause is sun exposure and Captain Jason Chambers is on the water for a living. Therefore, this is not unfounded but terrifying nonetheless. He went on to explain why he is getting a second opinion though that is not unreasonable in this situation:
“The Australian doctors here, which are fantastic in Australia, they weren’t happy with what the indications told them, to go to the stage two, which would be [to] cut out a bigger section and test the glands, so I’m waiting for the specimen to come from Bali.”
Unfortunately, he may have to wait until after the holidays which is extremely difficult. Yet, he is doing the best he can at the moment.
A Harsh Lesson
Admittedly, Captain Jason Chambers did not wear sunscreen for a very long time. He claimed it was because of the chemicals. Now, there are a plethora of options to keep people safe:
“There’s so many products out there that are chemical-free now, which is great. So, make sure you throw on some sunscreen, get some shade and cover yourself up and enjoy your day at the sun.”
He did think he was safe from getting anything as he lived his life in the sun but has been proven wrong. Captain Sandy Yawn immediately chimed in after seeing Jason’s video and had this to say:
Fans were hopeful that he would overcome and hear only good news. More so, they liked how he was spreading awareness of Melanoma and being safe in the sun:
- We love you Captain Jason! Spreading awareness is so important – you got this
- Got you in my prayers brother, been fighting skin cancer for about 10 years 🙏🏻❤️
- Sending best wishes to you Jason hopefully all ok 🤞
- Many prayers for clear margins!! The next one will get them all! Is it the Moh’s procedure or more invasive?
- Keeping you in my prayers Cap!! So sorry to hear you’re dealing with this! God bless you💙🙏🎄
Hopefully, everything comes back as good as possible and everyone learns from him to wear sunscreen and stay protected.
