    Broadway’s ‘Proof’, ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ & ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ Fill Seats

    Broadway box office sagged a bit last week, possibly as the previous week’s Easter vacationers and spring-breakers returned home and a crowded, 40-show production slate with lots of newcomers competed with one another for attention.

    The winners among the recent arrivals, at least in terms of attendance relative to capacities? Proof, virtually selling out the Booth for a gross of $935,431; The Rocky Horror Show, at 98% of capacity at Studio 54 for a gross of $727,283 (a Wednesday matinee was canceled); and Dog Day Afternoon, SRO at the August Wilson, $1,114,914.

    Other spring arrivals Giant ($1,215,687) and Every Brilliant Thing ($1,566,354) continued strong showings, and Ragtime was boffo as always at $1,152,711.

    On the slow-to-start end of the spectrum, Beaches, with an official opening tomorrow night, filled just 61% of seats at the Majestic for a tally of $473,027 and a negligible average ticket price of about $60.

    Many of the recent arrivals were in the 80%-90% of capacity range, including The Fear of 13, at 88% and a gross of $751,206, no doubt impacted by press- and opening-night comps. Same for Fallen Angels at the Haimes, with a gross of $433,166 and 82% attendance.

    Other notable numbers:

    • Schmigadoon!, in its final full week of previews before opening to solid reviews last night, filled 90% of seats at the Nederlander, grossing $631,114;
    • Becky Shaw was up nearly $75,000 to $420,131 at the Hayes;
    • Titaníque was up $127,025 from the previous week for a gross of $752,722, filling 87% of seats at the St. James;
    • The Balusters, opening tonight at the Friedman, filled 90% of seats last week for a take of $260,531;
    • Joe Turner’s Come and Gone filling 81% of seats at the Barrymore for a gross of $829,119. Opening night is April 25;
    • The Lost Boys, at 88% of capacity at the Palace for a take of $958,537. Opens April 26.

    In all, most of the 40 productions saw some b.o. declines from the previous week, with only nine shows bucking the downward trend. Sell-outs for the week were Dog Day Afternoon, Every Brilliant Thing, Hamilton, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Proof and Ragtime. Shows filling 90% or more of available seats were Buena Vista Social Club, Cats: The Jellicle Ball, Chicago, Death of a Salesman, Giant, Hadestown, Just In Time, Moulin Rouge!, Operation Mincemeat, Schmigadoon!, The Balusters, The Lion King, The Rocky Horror Show and Wicked.

    Broadway’s total gross for the week ending April 19 was $39,084,851, a 10% drop from the previous week and down 12% from last year at this time. Attendance was at 327,269, a 5% slip from the previous week and about even year-to-year.

    In the 47th week of the 2025-26 season, Broadway had grossed $1,713,932,461, up about 6% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 12,946,126 up 3%.
