Carlos Baute and Marta Sánchez’s enduring pop ballad “Colgando en Tus Manos” has joined YouTube’s Billion Views Club, surpassing the milestone on Tuesday (Sept. 1).
The Spanish singer-songwriter marked the achievement with an emotional Instagram post, reflecting on the song’s life well beyind it’s original release. “And a day I never imagined living arrived,” Baute wrote in Spanish. “I’ve never been someone who focuses on numbers. For me, music has always gone far beyond that: it’s songs, stories, memories, people and moments in life.”
“Even though I’ve never measured a song by its numbers, I have to admit this one moves me deeply,” he added.
Baute released “Colgando en Tus Manos,” featuring Sánchez, in 2008. The song reached No. 4 on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs and Latin Airplay charts, and topped Latin Pop Airplay. Its official video — filmed in Bulgaria — follows Baute and Sánchez through the city, including scenes in a vintage Rolls Royce before the pair dance on a theater stage.
The song’s staying power has extended into a new generation. In his post, Baute credited listeners who have fallen in love, dedicated the track to someone special, embraced while hearing it or sung it “at the top of their lungs.” “Behind that billion views, there is much more than a number,” he wrote. “There are stories. There are loves. There are memories.”
“I think there comes a moment when songs stop belonging to you. They become other people’s memories, part of their stories and their lives. And ‘Colgando en Tus Manos’ stopped being ours a long time ago. It belongs to all of you. One billion thanks,” he continued.
Baute also thanked Sánchez for helping shape what became one of Latin pop’s most enduring collaborations.
More recently, Baute revisited the hit with an AtellaGali remix, giving the beloved ballad a refreshed dance-pop treatment for a new era. “Reimagining [the song] was both an honor and a delicate responsibility,” AtellaGali told Billboard Español last year. “We knew we were working with a song that had already made history, so our goal wasn’t to compete with the original, but to celebrate it in a new sonic context.”
