Dennis Quaid & Josh Gad’s Controversial 2017 Movie Arrives on Netflix Today

Netflix and Peacock are expanding their libraries with the addition of Universal Pictures’ controversial 2017 movie, featuring Dennis Quaid and Josh Gad. During its theatrical run, the film grossed around $205 million at the worldwide box office.

What Dennis Quaid and Josh Gad movie is now on Netflix and Peacock?

As of today, the 2017 film A Dog’s Purpose is available to stream on Netflix and Peacock. In addition, its 2019 sequel, A Dog’s Journey, is also arrived on the streamer. Before its release, the comedy-drama movie was embroiled in a controversy involving a set video that featured a German Shepherd being forced to dip into rushing water. Shortly after the controversial video was released, the American Humane Association confirmed that a third-party investigation found that no animals were injured on set and that the leaked video was intentionally edited to mislead the audience.

The 2017 movie was based on W. Bruce Cameron’s novel of the same name. It starred Gad, Quaid, KJ Apa, Britt Robertson, Peggy Lipton, John Ortiz, Logan Miller, Luke Kirby, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and more. Despite the controversy, the film still received a Popcornmeter score of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“A devoted dog discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Reincarnated as multiple canines over the course of five decades, the lovable pooch develops an unbreakable bond with a kindred spirit named Ethan. As the boy grows older and comes to a crossroads, the dog once again comes back into his life to remind him of his true self,” reads the official synopsis.

A Dog’s Purpose was directed by Lasse Hallström, with Cameron, Cathryn Michon, Audrey Wells, Maya Forbes, and Wally Wolodarsky writing the screenplay. The film was executive-produced by Alan Blomquist, Lauren Pfeiffer, and Mark Sourian, with Gavin Polone serving as a producer. The creative team consisted of editor Robert Leighton, composer Rachel Portman, and director of photography Terry Stacey.
