Five Teens Arrested After Teacher Dies In TP Prank Gone Wrong

A beloved high school teacher and family man had recently lost his life in a late-night prank in Georgia. He was 40 years old at the time of his death. Since then, five teenagers have been arrested in the case. Since the tragedy, a GoFundMe has also been started to help the teacher’s family.

The Teacher Reportedly Walked Out Of His Home To Confront Pranksters Shortly Before His Death

North Hall High School math teacher Jason Hughes reportedly saw a group of pranksters outside a home at around 11:40 PM local time in Gainesville, Georgia. Reportedly, he saw the teenagers rolling toilet paper across his home.

The teacher stepped out of his home to confront the group. The teens then attempted to flee in vehicles.

Hughes then tripped and fell into the road. He was then hit by a fleeing vehicle, described as a pick-up truck. Reportedly, the driver was identified as 18-year-old Jayden Wallace.

The teen driver and two of his friends then attempted to help the teacher. However, Hughes ultimately died from his injuries on Friday at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Hughes was 40 years of age at the time of his passing.

Hughes is survived by his wife, Laura, who also works as a math teacher at the school. They also share two children together.

North Hall High School Has Since Released A Statement Following Jason Hughes’ Death

Wallace now faces a number of charges. These included first-degree vehicular homicide, criminal trespass, reckless driving, and littering on private property.”

The four other teens, and alleged co-pranksters, were identified as Elijah Tate Owens, Aiden Hucks, Ana Katherine Lucque, and Ariana Cruz. The four were all said to be 18 years old. They were also all arrested at the scene. They have been charged with criminal trespass and littering on private property. Both were said to be misdemeanor offenses. Authorities have shared that the case is still under investigation.

Since Hughes’ passing, a GoFundMe campaign was also launched to support his family. As it read, “Jason’s life was a blessing to so many, and his untimely passing will be indescribably difficult for his wife and two young boys for years to come. Please use this opportunity to come alongside them in their time of immediate need and future planning for his children.”

According to The U.S. Sun, North Hall High School has released a statement since the tragedy. It read, “Our hearts are broken. Jason Hughes was a loving husband, a devoted father; a passionate teacher, mentor, and coach who was loved and respected by students and colleagues. He gave so much to so many in numerous ways. Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife and family. We ask that the media and the public respect their privacy as they grieve.”
