Julie Andrews is reportedly embracing a quieter lifestyle in Sag Harbor, the Hamptons. She spends much of her time at home, where she enjoys tending to her garden. The legendary Mary Poppins star recently celebrated her 91st birthday. However, she has stepped away from major screen roles and now prefers spending time at home with her family.

Although Andrews remains a celebrated Hollywood icon, she is rarely spotted in public these days. An industry insider told the Daily Mail that she enjoys staying home and caring for her roses. “Julie spends a lot of time at home, she is a homebody, and loves being in Sag Harbor in the Hamptons where she has a beautiful garden. She loves to tend to her roses.”
The source also noted that Andrews occasionally ventures into town for tea or other outings. Even then, she is reportedly “always impeccably dressed with full makeup on and tasteful gold jewelry.”
The source added that Andrews avoids the Hamptons’ social scene despite receiving invitations. Instead, she prioritizes her privacy and spends considerable time with her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton.
Her preference for a quieter lifestyle also reflects her decision to step back from acting. Andrews recently confirmed that she would not return as Queen Clarisse in The Princess Diaries 3, despite being approached about the sequel.
“It was very very hard to say ‘no,’ but I did because I thought I had a wonderful ride,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. She added that the new film “would flourish very well and wouldn’t need Granny going in there at my age.”
However, Andrews has not completely retired. She continues to work on books, podcasts and voiceover projects, including her narration for Bridgerton. According to the insider, she prefers voice work because it allows her to avoid the long hours and extensive preparation required on a film set. In fact, Andrews has a recording booth in her Hamptons home, built by her grandson Sam, a sound engineer.
Andrews has also spoken openly about enjoying her slower pace of life. During a 2024 appearance on Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Wiser Than Me podcast, she said, “I don’t go out as much, and I love being home.”
Nevertheless, fans can look forward to seeing more of Andrews through an upcoming Disney+ documentary directed by RJ Cutler, scheduled for release in 2027.
