SHUDDER TAKES “SPLIT ROCK,” DIRECTOR RYAN GLOVER’S SUPERNATURAL FOLLOW-UP TO HORROR DEBUT “THE STRINGS”: “Shudder announced today that it is acquiring the rights to Split Rock, the sophomore supernatural horror feature from writer and director Ryan Glover (The Strings). Rights include The United States, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The film will debut at the 59th Sitges Film Festival on Oct. 9th and will celebrate its North American Premiere at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival on Oct. 21st before its Shudder release on December 25th.
The film stars Clark Backo (AMC+’s Yaga, Apple TV+’s The Changeling, Venom: The Last Dance), Drew Ray Tanner (Netflix’s Riverdale, Boot Camp), Olivia Luccardi (It Follows, HBO’S The Deuce) and Graham Verchere (Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher, Summer of ‘84) round out the cast.
SPLIT ROCK, which was filmed on 16mm, follows geologists Lauren (Backo) and Ben (Tanner) as they investigate a strange anomaly discovered deep within the remote badlands. After unearthing an ancient force hidden in the hills, the couple and their team must face a series of ever-intensifying horrors.
Brian Robertson of Low End (Cursed Films, V/H/S/Beyond, Darkest Miriam), Jefferson Moneo of Prowler Pictures (Flapjax, Welcome to Kittytown) and Krista Dzialoszynski of Observer Effect (The Strings) are producers. Executive producers are Ryan Glover, Kate Melville, Fabiola Caraza, Patrick Hackett and Daniel Futa with Joey Montenarello serving as casting director.
“I am very excited and thankful to be teaming up with Shudder again for the release of Split Rock, my bloodier, and far more ambitious second film,” said director Ryan Glover. “Shudder is home to the most passionate genre audience in the world, and I can’t wait for them to unearth the horrors and tragedies of Split Rock later this year”
“With Split Rock, Ryan Glover has delivered a meticulously crafted world of psychological tension and haunting performances from its intimate cast. We can’t wait to share this unsettling tale with Shudder audiences.” said Emily Gotto, Shudder’s SVP of Acquisitions & Productions.
The deal for the film was negotiated by Emily Gotto, SVP, Acquisitions & Productions on behalf of Shudder with Brian Robertson of Low End on behalf of the filmmakers.”

THE BOMB at Screamfest: “The horror-comedy The Bomb will make its LA premiere at Screamfest 2026 on Sunday, October 11 at 4 p.m. The short film will be screening at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood as a part of “Shorts Block 10.” The film focuses on an unfunny improv troupe and their impatient audience. When the audience finally gets up to leave, they discover that a nuclear attack has struck their city, forcing them with an impossible choice: death by radiation or bad comedy.
The Bomb will also screen as an official selection at Buried Alive Film Festival, Austin Horror Film Festival, HorrorHaus Film Festival, The Pittsburgh Moving Picture Festival, and Temecula Valley Film Festival.
The Bomb was written and directed by Michael Rhoa, a former writer for Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, where he won a WGA Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy/Variety Special. The Bomb was shot by cinematographer Nathan Smith (I’ve Got Issues).
The film is the second from Justin Kohlas’s KimberMark production banner and reunites the producing team behind the 2025 Screamfest standout Hide: Kohlas and multi-hyphenate producer and actor Keenan Buchanan. They are joined this time by New York’s Park Studio. Park is celebrating ten years as one of the city’s leading production and post-production companies, with Midwest roots and a decade of work for major brands and agencies, alongside producing the film Deal of a Lifetime, starring David Cross. Also returning from Hide is actor Matthew Mikita.
Kohlas has multiple projects in development, including …And Then She Was Gone, previously announced in Deadline. Buchanan is a fixture of the Los Angeles improv scene, where he and Rhoa cast much of the ensemble. He hosts the recurring comedy show Nice Mic at The Clubhouse in Los Feliz, where the film was shot.
Christopher Register also serves as producer. Register is a Los Angeles-based producer with more than two decades of experience producing events for clients including Variety, LACMA, Caltech, UCLA and USC, along with a slate of films.
The film stars Molly Kiernan (The Connors), Stephanie Streisand (Funny or Die), Nate Fernald (The Late Late Show with James Corden), Aaron Dalton (The Grief of Sharon Roundtree), Matthew Mikita (NCIS: Los Angeles), Maura Mannle (NCIS: Los Angeles), Jovanna Alexa Valladares (How to Rob a Bank), Katie Nathan (Upright Citizens Brigade), Jozef Fahey (Stipper Boyz), Tori Piskin (Comics Unleashed), Darian Michael Garey (Cimim), Andrew Grace (EverythingNowShow), and Keenan Buchanan (Hide).”
