The horror genre loves nothing more than raising the dead, and 2027 is shaping up to be a big year for familiar scares and long-awaited returns. From dormant franchises to horror favorites getting another chapter, next year is packed with sequels, reboots, remakes, and cozy continuations. The one thing we aren’t looking forward to is whether filmmakers have put some effort into them or if they are just lazy cash grabs. Either way, a new generation of fans will hopefully appreciate what we old-timers have held close to our hearts in the past. Here are some of the biggest horror franchises returning to screens in 2027.
Please remember that release dates can change. The ones below are estimated times based on what we found on IMDb.
The Revenge of La Llorona — April 9, 2027
The weeping woman is coming back. The Revenge of La Llorona returns to the supernatural legend of La Llorona, the ghostly figure whose cries signal terror for those unfortunate enough to cross her path. The new film stars Monica Raymund and Jay Hernandez, with Raymond Cruz returning to the supernatural world introduced in 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona.
The Exorcist: Martyrs — March 12, 2027
Mike Flanagan takes on one of horror’s most intimidating legacies with a new story set in The Exorcist universe. Rather than simply continuing The Exorcist: Believer, the film is being positioned as a fresh story within the franchise. Scarlett Johansson leads an impressive cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Carla Gugino, John Leguizamo and Hamish Linklater.
Wolf Creek: Legacy — 2027
Mick Taylor isn’t finished yet. John Jarratt returns as the sadistic Australian killer in Wolf Creek: Legacy, another trip into the Outback where unsuspecting travelers have very good reason to fear anyone offering them assistance. The sequel brings one of the 2000s’ nastiest horror villains back for another round.
Paranormal Activity 8 — May 21, 2027
The cameras are rolling again. The Paranormal Activity franchise returns for an eighth installment, bringing its stripped-down found-footage approach back to theaters. Plot details remain closely guarded, but the franchise has always been at its best when ordinary homes, bedrooms, and security cameras suddenly become evidence that something very unnatural is happening.
A Quiet Place Part III — July 30, 2027
The Abbott family’s story continues as John Krasinski returns to write and direct the third main installment of A Quiet Place. Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe are returning, with Jack O’Connell, Katy O’Brian and Jason Clarke also joining the cast. After Day One expanded the universe, Part III brings the focus back to the central storyline and humanity’s struggle to survive creatures that hunt by sound.
The Conjuring: First Communion — September 10, 2027
The Conjuring universe isn’t closing its haunted doors just yet. First Communion will continue the enormously successful supernatural franchise with another story involving the demonic forces that have made the series a modern horror institution. Story details are still limited, making this one of 2027’s more mysterious franchise entries.
Blair Witch — September 24, 2027
It’s time to head back into the woods. The Blair Witch franchise is being reimagined for another generation, revisiting the property that helped turn found-footage horror into a phenomenon after The Blair Witch Project became a cultural sensation in 1999. Exactly what awaits in the woods this time remains largely under wraps.
Return of the Living Dead — 2027
The dead are getting out of the grave again. A new Return of the Living Dead movie is planned for 2027 and returns to the world of the cult 1985 zombie comedy. The story takes place after the events at the UNEEDA warehouse, providing a direct connection to the movie that helped give pop culture its famous brain-hungry zombies.
Possession — June 11, 2027
Andrzej Żuławski’s surreal and disturbing 1981 cult classic Possession is getting a new interpretation. The original, starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill, mixed marital collapse, psychological horror and grotesque body horror into something that still defies easy explanation. The remake has the unenviable task of reinventing one of horror’s strangest and most fiercely admired films.
Crawl 2 — July 16, 2027
Apparently surviving one hurricane full of hungry alligators wasn’t enough. Crawl 2 follows the 2019 creature feature that trapped Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper inside a flooding Florida home with several very large predators. The sequel expands the survival-horror premise while bringing those toothy antagonists back for another feeding frenzy.
The Mummy 4 — October 15, 2027
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning to the world of ancient curses, supernatural monsters and globe-trotting adventure. Rather than starting from scratch, the new Mummy brings audiences back to the continuity that began with the hugely popular 1999 film. After years of fans hoping to see Fraser’s Rick O’Connell and Weisz’s Evelyn together again, their return makes this one of 2027’s most anticipated franchise revivals.
The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania — October 8, 2027
The monsters of Hotel Transylvania are headed back to theaters in a new animated adventure. The franchise has always played its horror icons for laughs rather than scares, but Dracula, monsters and supernatural mayhem still make it an interesting family-friendly addition to 2027’s crowded horror calendar.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 — 2027
The murderous animatronics are expected to continue their big-screen run with another Five Nights at Freddy’s installment. The movie franchise draws from the enormously popular video game series, where seemingly innocent children’s entertainment becomes the stuff of nightmares once the lights go out. Details about the third film remain limited for now.
V/H/S: SCP — 2027
The seemingly unstoppable V/H/S anthology series is expanding again, this time colliding with the world of SCP-inspired horror. The franchise’s found-footage format makes it a natural fit for bizarre creatures, unexplained phenomena and supposedly classified recordings, giving filmmakers plenty of opportunities to make audiences wonder what they’re about to see on the next tape.
