Love, Brooklyn by Rachael Abigail Holder was a standout in a big expansion on a strong specialty weekend with some nice debuts, solid holdovers and a surprise haul for an animated faith-based film.
Greenwich Entertainment opened Love, Brooklyn exclusively at the Angelika Film Center in New York last week to $55k for the four-day holiday weekend. It’s looking at an estimated second weekend gross of $120k in an expansion to 110 theaters for a cume of circa $180k. Holder’s feature directorial debut stars André Holland, Nicole Beharie, DeWanda Wise and Roy Wood Jr.
In wide release, The Salvation Poem Project is estimating at $2.4 million weekend for Light Of The World on 2,075 screens. The 2D animated film about the life of Jesus through the eyes of a young apostle John is at no. 9 at the domestic box office.
Neon’s Splitsville is looking at $815k on 800 screens for a cume of $1.23 million holding over in week 3.
Vertical’s The Threesome debuted to $592k on 402 screens.
Roadside Attractions’ Twinless opened to a 3-day gross of $504k on 567 screens
GKids released The Legend of Hei 2 on 348 screens to $226k. The follow up to 2019’s The Legend of Hei and the long-running web series The Legend of Luo Xiaohei has topped $70 million in China since it opened there in July.
Focus Features Honey, Don’t! grossed $100k at 190 theaters in week 3 for a cume if $5.7 million.
Documentary The American Southwest by Ben Masters, from Fin and Fur Films, opened on 72 screens across seven states in the southwest to $73k.
The Baltimorons from IFC Films is looking at an estimated opening weekend of $40k on four screens.
Music Box Films’ A Little Prayer is at $28k on 28 screens for a cume of $145k in week 3.
And Kino Lorber documentary Riefenstahl by Andres Veiel debuted at Film at Lincoln Center and Quad Cinema to $20.8k.
