Interview with Rebecca Zanetti, Author of Shadow of Fall

Interview with Rebecca Zanetti, Author of Shadow of Fall

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write this book?

I attended a writer’s retreat in Alaska and just loved the setting. It seemed like the perfect place for a romantic thriller with the jagged mountains and dangerous snow, so the Osprey brothers were born. Shadow of Fall is Damian Osprey’s story. He and the heroine, Stella Osprey, were married five years ago while undercover, and they, ah, lost touch. (It’s explained in the book.) Now they’re both in Alaska and in danger. Of course. LOL. The Alaskan nights are cold, and the romance is hot.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of your book, what would they be?

Damian Osprey — “Everybody Knows” by Sigrid
Stella Osprey — “Control” by Halsey
Brock Osprey — “Wrong Side of Heaven” by Five Finger Death Punch
Ophelia Spilazi — “Confident” by Demi Lovato
Christian Osprey — “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Amka Pinga — “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus
Ace Osprey — “Learn to Fly” by Foo Fighters
Dr. May Smirnov — “Elastic Heart” by Sia

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I read everything I can get my hands on and love thrillers, all genres of romance, middle-grade mysteries, and even court opinions. I like to write in different genres as well and can’t choose a favorite. LOL.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Here are the upcoming books I can’t wait to read:

    1. Pen Pal: The Afterlife by J.T. Geissinger is at the very top of the list right now. I’ve pre-ordered a couple editions of each of the special editions and will be giving one of each away (I’m keeping one for myself) on my Patreon, including the free tier.
    2. Perfect in Death by J.D. Robb
    3. Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
    4. The Murder Between Us by Tal Bauer
    5. A Court of Splintered Harmony by Sarah J. Maas
    6. Spy, Little Sister by Lexi Blake
    7. Dating and Dragons by Max Walker
    8. The next Torpedo Ink book by Christine Feehan, which isn’t up for preorder yet.
    9. Empyrean Book 4 by Rebecca Yarros (No date yet).
    10. Ravenous by Kresley Cole

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

I usually love the first chapter when the hero and heroine meet up or meet up again. In Shadow of Fall, Damian finally finds Stella hiding in the tunnels beneath his super-secret ‘ionosphere metering’ (yeah, right) facility, and there’s a fast shootout, someone gets hurt, and we’re off and running with the suspense and romance.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I like wearing thick, comfy socks, even in the summer when I write. There’s also always either coffee or tea on a warmer by my keyboard. I have one cup of coffee in the morning with a protein shake in it, and then I drink herbal tea all day. (Magic Hour has the BEST tea!). I also have different soundtracks for each book, so the music is usually blasting as well.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Would you like to play a game? 🙂

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

That they got lost in another world for a while, forgot their worries, and came away believing that love is always worth the risk.
