Gone Girl star Rosamund Pike has described veteran star Judi Dench as the finest actress she has collaborated with. Pike has also affectionately called Dench a “mischief maker.” Pike opened up about this in a recent interview with comedian Romesh Ranganathan on BBC Radio 2.

Rosamund Pike, often considered one of the finest actresses of her generation, called Dame Judi Dench the finest actress she has ever collaborated with. She said this in a recent interview on BBC Radio 2 (via The Independent).

Pike has worked with Dench on two occasions: a 2009 London production of Madame de Sade and the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day.

The Gone Girl actress spoke about Dench with admiration. “The best actress I’ve ever worked with is Judi Dench, who’s such a mischief maker,” Pike said on the radio. “She’s so delightful. She’s so, so good. If you ever just want to just hear something short, listen to Judi Dench read a Shakespeare sonnet, just find one on YouTube, and it will move you to tears, you’ll just think that is how English should be spoken,” she added.

Judi Dench is now retired from acting. The industry widely regards her as one of the most accomplished performers. Her accolades include an Academy Award, a Tony Award, two Golden Globe Awards, four British Academy Television Awards, six British Academy Film Awards, and seven Olivier Awards.

“She’s just amazing and yet, when you’re doing a play with her, she’s so funny, she’s so naughty. Off stage, she’s completely out of character, laughing, playing a practical joke, and then she walks on and it’s all there,” Pike continued.

During the same discussion, Pike also mentioned Christian Bale among the male co-stars she has worked with. “He’s another level,” Pike said of Bale. “I can’t say I know him really, but it was just a pretty amazing experience to be around him in a film called Hostiles, but I don’t think I met Christian. It’s just the level of truth, the level of commitment, integrity, truth. It’s the sort of depth of it all the time. I think he just doesn’t give anything away.”

Rosamund Pike will next appear in In the Grey, which is currently in production.
