Leonardo DiCaprio’s New Year getaway in the Caribbean has quickly become late-night fodder and awards-show humor after photos of the actor vacationing on Jeff Bezos’ yacht surfaced online. Now, the Oscar winner is finding himself at the center of playful jabs, most notably from Critics Choice Awards host Chelsea Handler, who seized the opportunity to poke fun at his high-end holiday.
Critics Choice Awards host Chelsea Handler mocks Leonard DiCaprio’s yacht getaway
During her opening monologue at the 31st Annual Critics Choice Awards, Chelsea Handler didn’t hesitate to take aim at Leonardo DiCaprio’s high-profile Caribbean escape. She told the audience that the Oscar winner “almost didn’t make it” to the ceremony. The setup led into a punchline referencing DiCaprio’s widely discussed stay aboard Bezos’ $250 million yacht. Handler reminded the audience that he had been photographed days earlier off St. Barts.
Handler then leaned into the 51-year-old’s reputation for supporting environmental causes. She quipped that being “trapped on a boat in St. Barts” was reminiscent of “Titanic.” “But worse… because Jeff Bezos was there,” she added. The joke drew loud laughter from the room. Meanwhile, DiCaprio reacted with a shy smile as cameras cut to him in the audience.
The ribbing came amid ongoing coverage of DiCaprio’s tropical getaway. The actor and his girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti, were spotted unwinding on the superyacht in the days leading up to New Year’s. DiCaprio was dressed casually in a T-shirt and shorts, while Ceretti wore a tank top, sarong, and sun hat. Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez, were also on board, soaking up the warm weather after spending Christmas in Aspen.
Handler’s monologue didn’t stop with DiCaprio. She also joked about Benicio del Toro, Nicki Minaj, Kevin Costner, and even delivered playful digs at Timothée Chalamet and Jacob Elordi. Meanwhile, on the red carpet, “Hacks” stars Meg Stalter and Paul W. Downs poked fun at Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s fashion by recreating the couple’s recent viral outfits.
