Netflix Responds to Demon Hunter’s Trademark Lawsuit

Netflix has responded to Demon Hunter’s trademark lawsuit over the name of a popular 2025 K-pop movie.

Demon Hunter filed the suit against Netflix, Netflix Studios and AEG Presents under their company Hyde Lane on Tuesday (Aug. 18). The complaint was in regards to the 2025 film KPop Demon Hunters and the partnership Netflix and AEG announced a few months ago for a world tour.

Netflix has issued a statement in response to the suit [via Blabbermouth]:

These allegations are without merit. Netflix has created an Academy Award-winning global phenomenon with ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ that has inspired fans around the world with its powerful music, storytelling and characters. We look forward to vigorously defending this matter.

What Did Demon Hunter’s Lawsuit Say?

Demon Hunter’s company Hyde Lane filed a trademark lawsuit against the three aforementioned entities over the film name’s likeness to the band’s moniker, which they’ve gone by for over 25 years. The suit also claimed that the Kpop Demon Hunters tour announcement created “confusion” amongst consumers, according to Complex.

The complaint cited an example of an individual who spent around $500 on tickets to a Demon Hunter concert in Albany, N.Y. but had actually intended to purchase tickets to take their kids to a KPop Demon Hunters show. Although the KPop Demon Hunters tour dates have not actually been announced, the person still sent an email asking for a refund or credit so that they could purchase the tickets they wanted when they go on sale.

Hyde Lane called Netflix, Netflix Studios and AEG Presents “massive companies that jealously guard and enforce their own intellectual property rights willfully disregarding the rights of others in pursuit of profits” in the suit and demanded that Netflix no longer be able to use the Kpop Demon Hunters name. The company also asked for restitution and treble damages.

KPop Demon Hunters has broken several Netflix records since its release in June of 2025. This past June, Forbes reported that the film became the platform’s first-ever movie to spend a full year on its Top 10 movies list.
