Production Wraps on Psychological Horror Film ‘The Block’

As much as I dislike the A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 remake, Jackie Earle Haley (pictured above in the film) was not the problem. The actor delivered a deeply sinister, frightening portrayal of Freddy Krueger that, unfortunately, went unnoticed by general audiences thanks to the movie’s many issues. But if you’re like me and you’re a fan of Haley, then you’ll want to keep an eye on The Block, which Deadline reports just wrapped production.

The psychological horror flick features Haley alongside a cast of genre regulars including Thomas G. Waites (The Thing), Catherine Cocoran (Terrifier), Chris Noth (Sex and the City), Carrie Jo Crosby, Armen Garo (Dexter: New Blood), Michael Rodrick (Castle Rock) and Elias Koteas (The Prophecy).

Jack Falahee (Death of a Salesman) and Saphira Moran (Beast) star in the lead roles.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Mitch James (Falahee) is at the top of his career. He becomes caught up in a murderous case of writer’s block and a fan-turned-girlfriend (Moran) obsession that becomes deadly. The movie follows the once-golden boy of horror into a mind-bending exploration of the creative process, locking the protagonist in a never-ending doom-cycle of creation and destruction.”

There have been countless horror films centered around writer’s block, with The Shining as perhaps the most well-known. Seeing as how we writers do and will always struggle at one point or another with it, it’s a sub-genre of horror some of us can never get enough of.

Here’s a first look at Falahee in The Block:

Craig Singer (6:45) directs from a script by Robert Dean Klein (Dark Ride).

Said Singer, “I’ve been developing The Block for many years. The original idea – what an artist is compelled to go through to secure their art and legacy – has always intrigued me and feels even more urgent in 2026.”

Continued the filmmaker, “Today’s rapidly evolving, AI-driven creative landscape forces creators at every level to make artistic choices and face challenges on a scale we’ve never seen. The timing couldn’t be more relevant. The Block isn’t about jump scares; it’s a philosophical fable for our times.”

The Block is a co-production between Singer’s Cascrator Films and Three777 Films.

The film is currently in post-production.

No word yet on a release date.
