Release Date, Plot Details and More ‘Court of Splintered Harmony’ News

    Bloomsbury

After years of waiting to reenter the Night Court, Sarah J. Maas‘ A Court of Thorns and Roses book universe continues. It’s been about five years since Nesta’s story was told in A Court of Silver Flames, and now we’re moving onto a whole different story arc called The Valkyrie Cycle. ACOTAR Book 6’s (lengthy) title is A Court of Splintered Harmony — The Valkyrie Cycle: Movement I.

Though much of the book’s plot has remained a mystery — though Maas had to ask fans to ignore unsanctioned A Court of Splintered Harmony leaks — Maas has been teasing the new installment on social media in the weeks leading up to release. The romantasy author wrote regarding Book 6, “What was broken will be remade.” She’s also had celebrities like Maya Hawke and Laufey narrate short passages. Another teased the possibility of an un-mating, getting a major reaction out of fans.

Swooon has collected all the essential information about A Court of Thorns and Roses Book 6 that you need to know. Scroll for all the latest updates.

When is A Court of Splintered Harmony coming out?

Book 6 will be released on October 27, 2026. “It’s been a long time coming,” Maas said on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “It took me a long time to write, just because there were enough things going on in my life that I had to sort through.”

She continued, “It’s taken a while because it took me a while to find the right story and to be in the right headspace. And then what poured out of me was this, and it poured out very quickly… I was in Montana this summer, and I don’t know, I think there’s some kinda energy vortex, like around Big Sky, because like I just got there and it clicked. It all came out of me.”

Who is the main character and POV of A Court of Splintered Harmony?

Maas has refused to reveal whose POV the book will primarily follow, though many fans have theorized it will follow Elain Archeron and Azriel. So far, the author has teased multiple characters’ perspectives through the Instagram snippets, including Azriel, Lucien, Nesta, Feyre, Cassian, Mor, and Gwyn.

How long is A Court of Splintered Harmony?

Maas was able to dish that the sixth book will be “long.” According to Bloomsbury, the first movement is 352 pages. “And that was one of the surprising things for me, like writing this and what came out,” Maas told Alex Cooper, before adding that readers will get “insight to various things.”

    What is The Valkyrie Cycle?

Not much is known about what The Valkyrie Cycle means, though readers know that Valkyries are a central part of A Court of Silver Flames. They are an ancient order of fae female warriors. Nesta, Gwyn, and Emerie revive the tradition and train to become Valkyries themselves in Book 5.

What is A Court of Splintered Harmony about?

The official synopsis for A Court of Splintered Harmony reads: “What was broken will be remade. Deep in the heart of the continent, Koschei the Deathless is stirring. Though he’s been bound to a mountain lake for millennia, the insidious threat of his return now spreads across the Fae territories, attracting powerful allies hell-bent on reclaiming what was once theirs: the human lands.

“The Night Court will not stand idly by while innocents are attacked. But with Prythian still piecing itself together in the wake of the devastating Hybern War, the task of uniting is proving more difficult by the day. To make matters worse, those who rule and protect the Night Court are reeling from recent betrayals and revealed truths. The rifts dividing them seem insurmountable. But to defeat Koschei’s creeping shadow, they must find a way back to each other and resurrect their former alliances. To survive, they must find a way to repair the splintered harmony all around them.”

Recent betrayals and revealed truths, you say?

How spicy is A Court of Splintered Harmony?

Silver Flames was the spiciest Sarah J. Maas book to date. If we do get an Elain/Azriel split perspective, we can expect at least another four-pepper book because Maas has said herself that Azriel “is a freak.”

When is ACOTAR Book 7 coming out?

Night Court fans, we’ll be getting two ACOTAR books in less than three months. Maas also announced that Book 7 will be released on January 12, 2027. ACOTAR 7 is officially titled A Court of Forgotten Melody: The Valkyrie Cycle Movements II & III. SJM teased of Book 7, “What was lost will be reclaimed.”

Maas confirmed in a 2024 interview with TODAY while promoting the third Crescent City novel that she had four more books on her current book deal, including ACOTAR 6. Throne of Glass is completely wrapped up, and Crescent City has wrapped up its main trilogy.

ACOTAR Book 7 will not be the final book in the series. Maas said on Call Her Daddy that there will be a “conclusion” to the series after that.

    What is ACOTAR 7 about?

The official synopsis for A Court of Forgotten Melody reads: “What was lost will be reclaimed. Prythian might never be the same again. Traditional alliances are crumbling, and no amount of diplomacy seems sufficient to repair them. With the continued threat of Koschei the Deathless on the horizon, a united front is crucial — and farther out of reach than it has ever been before. Bonds will be tested. Power will shift. And old enemies will emerge from nightmares of the past. As the Night Court’s Inner Circle disperses far and wide, desperate for any advantage against Koschei and his mighty allies, peace hangs by a fragile thread. But hope can be spun from the darkest of shadows, and the Night Court has its own part to play in the looming crescendo.”

Is ACOTAR getting a TV series?

Hulu was developing an ACOTAR television series in 2021, but by 2024, the adaptation was no longer moving forward. Outlander boss Ronald D. Moore was initially set as the showrunner of the ACOTAR series, but he eventually stepped away.

“It wasn’t really my decision,” he told Swooon in 2025. “I mean, I was at Disney. I was in development. It was a chaotic period. The thing about it was [going] from COVID to the strikes to a lot of shakeup in terms of Bob Iger leaves, Bob Iger comes back, and as a result, that piece of development just never got traction, and eventually I left, and the last I heard it was still in development, so I don’t know what happened to it.”

On Call Her Daddy, Maas revealed that she now has “the rights back to everything now and getting the rights back to all my things has been a big part of my journey in recent years that maybe at some point soon I will talk more about, but right now my focus is on books, and it’s been a little while since you guys have had something, so I’m focusing on that.”

She added, “But I look at any TV/movie adaptation as kind of like another facet of the worlds that I’ve created, and it’s something that I want to be in charge of, I want to be figuring out. I want to be learning everything that I can. I’m a type-A control freak, a little bit, but I want to know everything about how it gets made, not because of that control, but just because I love movies. I love TV. I want to be a part of that, and I want to see everything adapted the way I envision it and the way I know fans want it.”
