I don’t care who you are; 40 is a huge milestone birthday worth celebrating. While most of us might have a nice party with a cake, I prefer chocolate; the Real Housewives of Potomac’s Wendy Osefo showed us how to ring in our Double 20. The candle stick maker has been on a journey to ensure Zen Wen sticks around. Wendy has opened up about her ventures with fans and hopes that celebrating her big day will encourage others to embrace whatever number they are at.
Wendy Osefo shared positive thoughts about aging
I am definitely guilty of feeling stressed out when a big birthday rolls around. I find myself wondering if I have done enough in these years. Did I accomplish all I set out to when I was just a kid? I think it is natural for us to doubt that we’ve done enough and feel less than when another trip around the sun sneaks up on us. But Wendy handled her 40th with class in a way I rarely see reality TV stars embrace. The mother of three accepted the number and was at ease. Even though she joked that she thought 40 would be the worst birthday since she wasn’t traveling outside the U.S., it turns out she had everything she needed right in her own backyard.
As a viewer, I appreciated how Bravo gave Wendy a moment to share all that she has accomplished with viewers. Wendy shared in her confessional that she felt “so overwhelmed and surrounded by love.” But what I liked the most was how honest Wendy was. She shared, “At first I was nervous about turning 40.”

Wendy continued, “Until my mother told me, ‘People who are scared about their age are people who feel like they haven’t accomplished what they needed to accomplish by that age.’ And when she said that, I said, “And you’re right.” Wendy is a well-rounded real housewife star who has a lot to brag about. She was more than a professor at one of the country’s most esteemed universities. She was a political TV analyst, author, mother of three, wife, and host of her own online talk show. Not to mention, Wendy also has four degrees. The RHOP star earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science from Temple University and a Master of Arts degree in government from Johns Hopkins University.
She also completed an M.Sc. in public affairs with a concentration in community development at Rutgers University. After the collage of memories stopped, Wendy noted, “And at 40, I have accomplished every single thing I have ever wanted to. And for that, I’m blessed.” I believe she showed fans that you don’t have to make up meanings for each number, like triple 20. You can age gracefully and be proud of how far you’ve come.
What 40 means to Wendy Osefo
Wendy and the Real Housewives of Potomac cast have traditionally skipped her birthday each year, for 40, she was celebrated! For the last few episodes, Wendy has been revving up for the big day as she prioritizes her goals and hopes to inspire those around her. And goodness knows these women need levity in their lives right now. Wendy sat down with The Grio to talk about what turning 40 means. She shared, “For me, my 40s are about being unapologetically you. Not having to bend or shrink to fit into other people’s expectations. But being who you are, the way you want to be, and not only doing it for yourself but doing it for others. Shedding light and love on other people’s lives.”
Wendy concluded, “And so 40, for me, is about not only being happy but also making sure I’m a source of happiness for those around me.” The Potomac queen was a source of happiness as she rang in her birthday at midnight with the rest of the women. Even though they might not have been in a club or on an island, the ladies danced and laughed like there was no tomorrow. The moment showed true sisterhood among the cast, and Wendy never looked
happier.
