‘Slayaway Camp 2’ Slashes Its Way Onto Steam

    Slayaway Camp 2

Horror gamers, behold! We have a look at the follow-up to the hit 80s horror-inspired sliding puzzler today, with the Slayaway Camp 2 trailer teasing its way onto the Steam store.

The original Slayaway Camp was first released in October 2016 and was immediately a hit with horror gamers. Fans spent hours completing the gore-filled isometric sliding block puzzles developed by Blue Wizard Digital. The title quickly found success with a unique mix of crisp isometric graphics, body-exploding gore, and spatial brain teasers built upon a beguilingly simple set of mechanics.

A big part of the original Slayaway Camp’s appeal was its premise, which involved gamers taking control of the iconic Skullface, a violent and deranged serial killer hell-bent on slaughtering the inhabitants of the titular Slayaway Campgrounds. Fans quickly connected the title to its main inspirations, Friday the 13th and Sleepaway Camp, though there are many other similarities to campground slashers. Steve Barton, former EIC of Dread Central, was even immortalized as a victim in the game.

Killing Can Be Fun, and Messy

Players navigate slide puzzle boards of increasing difficulty to progress the story and help Skullface on his murderous path of destruction. Interacting with the game is reminiscent of the ice-sliding puzzles of the Legend of Zelda franchise. Don’t let the simplicity of the controls fool you, though; these puzzles get seriously difficult, and the gore and violence make the payoff of completing the boards extremely satisfying along the way.

While the first game in the series focused solely on the camp killer genre, Slayaway Camp 2 breaks free of the subgenre and digs deep into the terror tropes. The game begins with Skullface being summoned from his fictional world of the Slayaway Camp films, landing in a ghost-in-the-machine meta-narrative.

Finding himself trapped within the confines of a popular streaming platform called TERRORTUBE, players must help Skullface hack and slash his way through sliding block puzzles inspired by blatantly evident and hilarious parodies of iconic films.

    New Mechanics, Abilities, and Obstacles!

Slayaway Camp 2 boasts more than just an expanded world, though. Fans can unlock 36 new killers and new abilities while testing their mettle against 350 challenging puzzles, including 25 parodies of classic genre films found only on the TERRORTUBE streaming platform. Diehard puzzle completionists will be rewarded with hidden unlockable machete kills, violent and bloody Level-up Mini games, and an “Endless Mode” sure to satisfy even the sickest of slide puzzle masters.

Featuring full controller support, the game will also run flawlessly on Steam Deck. With challenging new mechanics alongside the tried and true of the first game, Slayaway Camp 2 builds on the logic of twisting slide puzzles with a new single-step movement and new obstacles. Players must contend with crushing crates, floor switches, breakable ground, and more!

Slayaway Camp 2 is available now to wishlist on Steam.
