Southern Hospitality Season 3, Episode 5 Recap

Last week on Southern Hospitality, Emmy and Will’s relationship drama interrupted Lake’s birthday celebration. After Michols failed to get through to Emmy about Will’s drunken rants, the group tried again at dinner. She stormed off and had another meltdown. Before Will’s brother picked her up, she labeled TJ and Brad bad friends. Meanwhile, Joe tried to make amends with TJ after a concussion put things into perspective. While Joe dismissed their cuddle three years ago, TJ said it wasn’t “nothing” to him. Here’s what happened this week on Southern Hospitality Season 3 Episode 5, “No Call, Low Blow.”

This week, TJ and Joe finally make amends. Emmy skips her first shift after the trip, further driving a wedge between her and the Republic staff. Especially Michols, who has to write her up. Meanwhile, TJ and Maddi both make career moves. When Austin shares some gossip, the whole group is stuck with a major secret about Will and Emmy’s relationship yet again.

The episode picks up with TJ and Joe’s conversation. TJ says that Joe distanced himself after their moment three years ago. Joe counters that, since then, TJ’s spread rumors he’s gay. Both tearfully realize they never talked about Joe’s sexuality but should’ve.

As TJ admitted to Michols, he has bad experiences with straight guys. With Joe, it was different because of the deep friendship. The cuddling made him wonder if they could be something more. Joe can relate to having unrequited feelings for someone for years. Both admit their hurt led to actions they’re not proud of.

Hoping to trust each other again, they agree this conversation is a stepping stone. Joe suggests that TJ unblock him. TJ asks if that means he’ll get all the texts Joe tried to send, and Joe jokes that he sent him a text every day. Very The Notebook, you two. They hug, and it’s a huge weight off their shoulders.

When Brad asks how it went, TJ tells him Joe admitted something happened. He also repeats Joe thought he was a girl. Brad jokes that TJ doesn’t look like any girl he’s ever met. I wonder if there might still be arguments between Joe and TJ over this to come.

Emmy and Will put up a united front on date night

After Lake Wylie, Emmy only wants to hang out with Will. As they go on a boat date, Emmy remarks that she looks like a beauty pageant contestant, and Will says it’s the eye makeup. Emmy’s eye makeup is a supporting character this season! Speaking of, how gorgeous is that purple eyeshadow in her confessional look?

Emmy and Will are both frustrated by the group’s narrative about their relationship. “I’m sorry everyone’s attacking you,” Will says, feeling guilty for his part in it. Emmy assures Will he makes her happy. Will tells Emmy she got him through this year of law school. And that she’s the only one who gets how stressful it is for him. After school, he hopes to get a good job, a house, a dog, and a hot wife like Emmy. Then clarifies he wants Emmy as said hot wife.

“I know people think women from the south just want a wealthy husband who can do whatever they want and they’ll turn a blind eye as long as they can get their Botox,” Emmy says, insisting, “That will never be me. I am no pushover.” She adds, “What people don’t understand is that Will is head over heels in love with me. That man kisses the ground I walk on.”

Emmy’s a no call no show

Tensions between Emmy and the others get worse when she skips her first shift after Lake Wylie with no warning. According to Maddi, a no-call no-show is the worst thing you can do in hospitality. Brad isn’t there, so Republic is already short-staffed, and it’s a super busy night.

Lake sees Emmy and Will walk by. We hear Emmy say to pretend she didn’t see her. Lake is already pissed about her ruined birthday dinner, so this only antagonizes Emmy more in her eyes. She wonders if Emmy purposefully walked in front of Republic to throw it in everyone’s faces. Adding fuel to the fire, Emmy posts an Instagram story of her and Will’s date.

Emmy returns to work a few days later, despite telling Will she feels like she’s having a panic attack. The others are stunned that she acts like nothing happened. When Brad comes up to her, she tells him to stick to talking about work. He agrees, as Will also told Brad and Joe to stay out of his relationship. Maddi confronts her about skipping to go out with Will, but Emmy argues that was her version of a mental health day. Still, Maddi wishes Emmy at least called or texted her.

As AGM, Michols has to write Emmy up for a no-call no-show. She tells Michols she called Leva. Leva refutes this. But it would’ve been the wrong move anyway. Leva is the owner, not Emmy’s supervisor. However, Emmy was determined to avoid Michols at all costs. Michols writes her up, and Emmy signs it but slams the door behind her.

Outside of work and Emmy drama, Michols goes on a date this week. Remember Preston, the guy he made out with at his birthday? They’ve been seeing each other for a bit.

They have a fun arcade date, which Michols really needed. He recently went home, where his twin sister Michelle was the only supportive person. A tearful Michols says he felt undeserving of love growing up, which is why he hasn’t been in a relationship yet. When a producer asks if he holds out hope his mom will come around, Michols says no. It breaks his heart, but he doesn’t see it happening. Fortunately, things go well with Preston, and they make plans for another date.

    TJ introduces Sir Wiener

TJ meets with Leva to propose having a hot dog cart at Republic once a month. He named the brand Sir Wiener, the nickname for his ex’s…wiener.

Leva loves to see TJ take initiative but argues he hasn’t thought enough about logistics. For instance, he has Republic’s Executive Chef Mike on board to create the menu, but can’t afford that every month. When TJ suggests having 200 people at the first event, Leva asks, “You don’t think that’s, no pun intended … ” TJ interrupts, “Too many wieners?” Leva blinks and adds, “No … a big bite?” Adding yet another pun, TJ admits it’s a lot to chew.

When Leva asks the hard questions, TJ realizes he put a lot of money into it without thinking in detail. Literally, put the hot dog cart before the horse. But TJ stays focused on branding and has his friends pose for a photo shoot. He remarks how weird it is that Joe is there, but not Emmy or Will.

    Maddi and Joe look forward

Last week, Joe’s concussion made Maddi realize how much she loves him. However, his raw chicken wings made her realize something else. Despite his Italian bravado, Joe cannot cook. His attempt at another chicken dinner also goes south.

Maddi’s career is on the rise, as she’s offered a gig in Las Vegas. Joe is happy for her but also fears she may outgrow Charleston. In some serious foreshadowing, Joe mentions that people get married in Vegas. Maddi isn’t sure she’s ready for marriage and kids yet, especially since they can’t even cook chicken. But she now knows she wants that someday with Joe.

She also hopes the Vegas gig helps Grace Lilly find her purpose. Maddi fears that her bestie is a little lost since leaving Republic.

    Austin drops a bombshell

At the end of this week’s episode, Austin claims people from Will’s law school said he openly cheated on Emmy at a party. Now the group is stuck holding secrets about Will’s (alleged) betrayal of Emmy yet again! Joe flashes back to Will telling him and Brad to stay out of the relationship. Molly wonders how many receipts Emmy needs before she returns Will. “The customer service desk is screaming!” Referencing Emmy’s first meltdown, she jokes, “They’ll probably give you store credit!”

Southern Hospitality airs Thursdays on Bravo.

TELL US – WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY SEASON 3 SO FAR? SHOULD THE OTHERS STAY OUT OF EMMY AND WILL’S BUSINESS? ARE YOU HAPPY TJ AND JOE MADE UP?
