Willa Fitzgerald has officially signed on to star in Skeletons, the upcoming creature feature from Strange Darling writer-director JT Mollner. She joins an already impressive cast led by Brie Larson and Kyle Gallner, reuniting Fitzgerald and Gallner on screen after their unforgettable performances in one of the most acclaimed horror films of the decade.
Sony Pictures recently secured worldwide distribution rights to Skeletons after a competitive bidding war, signaling strong confidence in Mollner’s next genre outing.
Based on a short story by acclaimed horror author Philip Fracassi and adapted by No One Will Save You writer Brian Duffield, Skeletons centers on a young boy who slowly begins to realize his parents are hiding a terrifying secret. Every night, his mother is mysteriously locked inside a secure cage, hinting at a horrifying transformation that the filmmakers are keeping tightly under wraps.
While the exact nature of the creature remains a mystery, early descriptions suggest audiences can expect a film that blends emotional family drama with monster movie thrills. Producer J.J. Abrams has described the project as both heartfelt and terrifying—a horror story that’s just as interested in its characters as its scares.
For horror fans, Gallner’s involvement is reason enough to get excited. Over the past several years, he’s become one of the genre’s most dependable leading men with standout performances in Smile, The Passenger, Strange Darling, and Dinner in America. His work also earned him iHorror’s Best Actor Award, recognizing one of the strongest runs by any actor working in horror today.

Fitzgerald has likewise become a fan favorite thanks to performances in Scream: The TV Series, The Fall of the House of Usher, and her critically acclaimed turn in Strange Darling. Seeing her reunite with Gallner under Mollner’s direction makes Skeletons one of the most anticipated horror projects currently in development.
Very little else is known about the film, and that’s probably by design. If Strange Darling taught horror fans anything, it’s that JT Mollner is a filmmaker who knows how to keep audiences guessing. With an exceptional cast, an intriguing premise, and one major monster-sized secret still waiting to be revealed, Skeletons is already shaping up to be one to watch.
