After nearly 20 years on The View, Whoopi Goldberg isn’t going to talk about things that don’t interest her. She has zero interest in celebrity gossip and regularly tunes out during those discussions. But she took things to a whole new level by completely shutting down during a celebrity interview on the talk show this week. Keep reading for all the details on the iconic move.
Ways Whoopi Goldberg Avoids Certain Topics
After a long career in Hollywood, Whoopi Goldberg has been in her fair share of headlines. But as a host of The View, she avoids celebrity gossip as much as she can. Since she’s the moderator of the “Hot Topics,” the comedian often brings the topics up and lets the other hosts talk about it.

Sometimes Whoopi Goldberg takes naps or slouches back in her chair during conversations she deems boring. If she’s not interested, she’s going to zone out. The conversation recently turned to a topic that Whoopi Goldberg didn’t want to hear, but she didn’t use one of her tried-and-true methods of checking out. She did something new and, quite frankly, relatable to escape listening.
It’s Whoopi Goldberg’s job to decide when a segment is over so she can go to a commercial break. She cut off her co-hosts during one recent controversial discussion. But when two stars of Hulu’s Paradise joined the table, she didn’t want to listen at all.
The View Host Shuts Down In The Middle Of Interview
Paradise is a buzz-worthy dystopian drama starring This Is Us alum Sterling K. Brown, James Marsden, and more. Julianne Nicholson and Thomas Doherty joined The View this week to talk about the upcoming Season 2 finale. Hulu recently announced that the show was renewed for a third season. The news came weeks after show creator Dan Fogelman said that the show would end after its third season.
If you haven’t watched Paradise, the show follows the hand-picked survivors living in an underground bunker after the planet becomes uninhabitable. Season 2 revealed that some people outside the bunker did survive. Several plot points were revealed during the latest episode, including the mystery of who – or what – “Alex” is.

Sunny Hostin, who is clearly a huge fan of Paradise, asked specific questions about various details from the last episode. Julianne Nicholson played coy, but promised that the mystery of “Alex” would be revealed during the season finale.
However, Whoopi Goldberg didn’t want to hear any spoilers. When Sunny Hostin was asking for details, The View moderator plugged her ears and could be heard saying “La la la la la la la,” to avoid listening to the conversation. Her antics caught the attention of both the camera operator and Julianne Nicholson, who laughed at Whoopi Goldberg’s tactic to remain spoiler-free. Sunny Hostin warned viewers at the start of the interview to get caught up on Paradise before the Monday, March 30th finale.
Tell us what you think about Whoopi Goldberg plugging her ears to avoid spoilers.
