Timothée Chalamet’s ‘Marty Supreme’ Sets A24 Presales Record

Presales for original drama Marty Supreme are the fastest in A24 history Deadline hears with more than 65 complete sellouts across hundreds of showtimes, and over 70% of tickets sold overall, setting the Timothée Chalamet-starring drama for rarefied numbers in limited release at six theaters.

At 96% Certified Fresh with critics on Rotten Tomatoes and with a 91 Metacritic score, the film will go wide Christmas day on circa 2,500 screens.

Premiered at the New York Film Festival, see Deadline review. Chalamet is Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, who goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness in this fictionalized portrait of a brash shoe saleman turned ping pong champion set in postwar NYC. Chalamet paired a chic black leather ping pong paddle with his orange suit at the LA premiere.

The majority of presale buyers are younger, 17–24 years.

Directed by Josh Safdie, the film debuts this weekend at AMC Grove, AMC Century City, AMC Burbank in LA and AMC Lincoln Square, Regal Union Square and Alamo Brooklyn in New York.

Safdie wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bronstein. Also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, Luke Manley, Koto Kawaguchi.

A24’s marketing campaign was anchored by a viral blimp video that quickly spread online, generating buzz alongside an actual blimp that traveled across the country. Chalamet’s personal collaboration with designer Nahmias resulted in limited-edition sweatshirts worn and shared on social media by Tom Brady, Misty Copeland, Kid Cudi, Bill Nye, and more, supported by pop-ups in New York, London and Brazil. Cast and filmmakers lit the Empire State Building orange and illuminated the Sphere in Las Vegas. The campaign includes collaborative partnerships with Regal on custom popcorn buckets, Wheaties , Airbnb for a table tennis competition, and Disney ESPN and the NBA on a Jingle Hoops spot.

Searchlight Pictures debuts Bradley Cooper’s Is This Thing On?

starring Will Arnett and Laura Dern also on six screens in Los Angeles (AMC Grove, AMC Century City), New York (Angelika, AMC Lincoln Square), and Toronto (Cineplex Varsity). Cooper (A Star Is Born, Maestro) is appearing for select opening weekend Q&As at the Angelika with Arnett Century City and the Grove. There are also costume displays at the Angelika and the Grove Expands over the Christmas holiday in Chicago, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Boston, Phoenix and Philadelphia.

World premiered as the Closing Night Film at the New York Film Festival followed by Mill Valley, Hamptons, BFI London, Chicago, Santa Fe, Woodstock, Hawaii, Middleburg, Philadelphia, Cambridge, New Orleans, SCAD, Leeds, Angers, and Stockholm, among others. Holds a 90% Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score and a 75 Metacritic score.

As their marriage quietly unravels, Alex (Arnett) faces middle age and an impending divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene while Tess (Dern) confronts the sacrifices she made for their family, forcing them to navigate co-parenting, identity, and whether love can take a new form.

The campaign featured key partnerships including with J.Crew, New York City Tourism that promoted shooting locations including the Comedy Cellar and Grand Central Station, and Volkswagen. Dern hit The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Arnett Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Cooper and Arnett were on Good Morning America. Andra Day performed on Today and The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Cooper, Ciarán Hinds and Christine Ebersole also star. Written by Cooper, Arnett and Mark Chappell from a story by Arnett, Chappell and John Bishop. Sean Hayes, Amy Sedaris, Jordan Jensen, Chloe Radcliffe, Reggie Conquest, Scott Icenogle, Blake Kane and Calvin Knegten round out the cast along with two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Peyton Manning.

Angel Studios animated David opens wide on 3,118 screens. As per the distributor’s synopsis: From the songs of his mother’s heart to the whispers of a faithful God, David’s story begins in quiet devotion. When the giant Goliath rises to terrorize a nation, a young shepherd armed with only a sling, a few stones, and unshakable faith steps forward. Pursued by power and driven by purpose, his journey tests the limits of loyalty, love, and courage—culminating in a battle not just for a crown, but for the soul of a kingdom. Directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes. Written by Dawes, Kyle Portbury and Sam Wilson. Voiced by Brandon Engman, Phil Wickham, Mark Jacobson and Miri Mesika. RT has this as 65% with critics (off 20 reviews) and 98% with audiences.
