Weekend projections: so-so debut for Nobody 2 leaves Weapons easy weekend winner

Nobody 2 is headed for an opening weekend just short of $10 million—a slightly disappointing number compared to our predictions, but still in the realm of “not bad.” Weapons will remain top of the chart, with an excellent decline of just 43% from its opening, a figure helped by its expansion into an additional 248 theaters, but mostly down to great word of mouth.

Here are the official studio projections for the three-day weekend (click the image for a full chart of all films reporting so far):

All-in-all, the weekend is shaping up basically as expected. Nobody 2 is coming in a bit lower than the model predicted, as is The Naked Gun. F1 is having an excellent weekend. Overall, we’re looking at a typical late-Summer market, with the Summer blockbusters playing out, and films aimed at “more targeted” (i.e., smaller) audiences popping up in the top 10.

One film conspicuously not showing up in the top 10 is Americana, which debuted in 1,100 theaters in the end, and which will earn in the neighborhood of $500,000. Lionsgate hasn’t announced any numbers for the movie, and are clearly focusing on the home market for this one.
