Ahoy, land lovers. We are currently preparing for another season of Below Deck Down Under. To best equip our senses, we are learning all about the newest crew members hired to live, laugh, love, and give lip service onboard the motor yacht Katina. One of these new yachties is Johnny Arvanitis. Johnny is joining this series as a deckhand, and from what we have gathered, Jonny might be a wild card on BDDU.
Luckily for Johnny, we like potential hot messes on Bravo.
Thankfully, Johnny also seems beyond well-equipped to work on the deck of a super yacht, which we know the exterior team will appreciate. His Bravo bio and socials agree. After scanning everything we could get our hands on, we now know more about who this Season 3 deckhand is on BDDU. And because we are givers, we will present our findings to you now.
Johnny Arvanitis has an impressive resume
Johnny is walking the pier towards BDDU Season 3 with nine years of yachting experience on his resume. On his Instagram account, Johnny’s career is front and center. His images show Johnny working and thriving in Greecian waters, sometimes with fruity drinks but mostly without.
His Instagram bio labels Johnny as a “SuperYacht Bosun,” although when he appears on BDDU, this title will not be his to carry. However, firings and subsequent promotions typically occur, so anything remains possible until BDDU Season 3 concludes. But for the sake of Wihan Du Toit, the day one Bosun, we hope for fair weather and calm(ish) seas. Or not, since drama is also fun, as long as no one gets hurt.
When Johnny is not setting sail on Bravo, this Athens resident works as the head captain onboard the VALIUM 55 motoryacht stationed in Greece. According to the website for this vessel, Captain Johnny speaks fluent Greek and English. He also has a basic understanding of German and Spanish.
But yachting was not his first passion. That award goes to the field of engineering. However, as Johnny focused on his studies, yachting became his main focal point. He has since worked on everything from catamarans to motor yachts to super-yachts, showing he is highly skilled and ready to tackle the deckhand position on BDDU Season 3.

As listed by Bravo, Johnny is a Gemini, born and raised in Athens, Greece. When Johnny is not swabbing a deck or swerving his vessel away from stormy routes, he enjoys “Hiking, spearfishing, reading books, and [playing] tennis paddle.” And if you are confused like us, Google defines this as tennis, but with a smaller court, zero doubles lanes, and a lowered net.
Johnny also carries a high self-esteem. Listed within his skillsets, Johnny quipped, “I can do anything. I haven’t found something I’m bad at.” We will see about this, Johnny.
For Johnny, his career comes first. “When traveling for work, I’m too concentrated on what I do for my future, so I don’t miss anyone,” he explained. Fair enough.
But his favorite place to set sail is near his home base. “The Ionian Sea in Greece is the best place in the world,” Johnny notes, as I shake my head agreeing.
Johnny leaves us with one final fact on his Bravo bio. It is an interesting one that only seasoned yachties could likely understand. “When on a yacht for a long time, the sea feels stable while the land [keeps] moving,” Johnny stated. What the sneak peek for BDDU Season 3 teases about Johnny Arvanitis
The trailer for BDDU Season 3 teases a wild ride for our latest group of yachties. Boatmances, trash weather, arguments, and drunken antics will appear, like always. But what does the trailer specifically say about Johnny?
The first time Johnny appears, we see him dancing with zero care in the galley alongside various crew members from this season. Then, Johnny is on deck, in the rain, standing with his body arched in a muscular poise. “You need the muscles of a Greek God,” he announces as a fellow exterior team member appears to be taking his photograph.
Following this, our potentially wild mate appears again, standing in a tender, waving a mop-like article while howling like a wild animal. So far, Johnny is nothing but a great time. But then, towards the end of the BDDU Season 3 trailer, things seem to spiral downhill as a cabin-located argument transpires between Johnny and Wihan.
As he enters their cabin in a tizzy, Wihan leans over in his bunk, asking, “Johnny, can you please tell me what’s going on?” Instead of using his words, Johnny throws his fist into an upper storage cabinet, yelling, “DON’T YOU F*CKING TALK TO ME!”
And then the trailer concludes, leaving us with many questions about how Johnny might present on Season 3 of BDDU. Cue us, eager for this new season to finally dock on Bravo.
