Once upon a time, Bravo producer Andy Cohen and Bethenny Frankel were good friends. But after leaving Real Housewives of New York, that relationship fractured, imploded, and never recovered.
With reconciliation being the new trend in the Bravoverse, fans are wondering why Andy has managed to mend fences with other former Housewives, including Carole Radziwill after years of public tension, but he and Bethenny’s relationship still remains contentious.
The former friends have traded pointed remarks for years, and despite many repaired relationships in Bravo, their latest exchange reveals they’re still not ready to let it go. During Bravo Fan Fest, Andy took a quick swipe at Bethenny, and she fired back on social media just as quickly. Is there ever a chance these two will bury the hatchet?
Andy Cohen and Bethenny Frankel’s relationship wasn’t always rocky
It wasn’t always harsh words between Andy and Bethenny. In fact, they were once friendly enough to make this current friction really stand out against their former dynamic. They became friends through RHONY. Bethenny was one of the OG RHONY stars when it premiered in 2008. She was witty, sharp, entrepreneurial, and always spoke her mind. She quickly became a standout on the show.
At the time, they were professional colleagues, but their relationship grew into friendship. When Bethenny returned for RHONY in Season 7, Andy was enthusiastic and described her return as a gift to him and the fans. When she departed again, he even said that he could see her returning.
And outside of RHONY, Andy appeared on her show and podcast, Just B with Bethenny Frankel, where she said he was “part of the reason she was there.” She also appeared on Watch What Happens Live. The pair even reunited socially. In July 2020, Andy shared a photo of them in the Hamptons and described the reunion as “short on drama but full of laughs.”
They had a genuine relationship and respected each other as peers. Bethenny noted that she and Andy “came up together.” That type of history is hard to ignore. And it’s what complicates their subsequent clashes.
Why Andy Cohen and Bethenny Frankel’s relationship fell apart
Where did it all go wrong? Up until 2022, things seemed to be okay, but tensions escalated that year, and it showed when Bethenny appeared on WWHL that December. At the time, Bethenny launched a podcast called ReWives to revisit her experiences on RHONY.
Andy criticized this move and called it hypocritical since Bethenny had been saying bad things about RHONY for years. Bethenny’s co-star Luann de Lesseps agreed with Andy at the time and threw shade at Bethenny for the podcast (no love lost there).
For her part, Bethenny defended her right to revisit personal experiences on the show that shaped her life and made her a household name. She also maintained that she could do so without returning. Their exchange on WWHL highlighted the growing divide between Bethenny and Andy, and everyone could clock the tension.
While that may have been an irritation, everything bubbled over in 2023. As everyone remembers, that’s when Bethenny launched her “reality reckoning.” At the time, she was calling for better compensation, protections, and working conditions for reality stars. But while doing so, she publicly criticized Andy for his position in the reality TV ecosystem.
Bethenny clarified that the campaign wasn’t a personal vendetta against him, but many fans pointed out that it seemed like it was. While Andy was initially sad, he eventually moved to defending the industry and then publicly dismissing Bethenny. Fans knew the pair were definitely done when the shade kept coming. Bethenny said Andy likely “despised her,” while Andy referred to her as “the margarita lady” and said she was “suffocating.”
At that point, it was obvious their disagreement was no longer just about a podcast or Frankel’s departure from RHONY. It had become a public clash over the industry that made them both famous, and it had become personal.
Andy Cohen reconciled with Carole Radziwill, but can he make peace with Bethenny?
The question now is why can’t these two mend fences after all this time? Andy has reconnected with other Housewives, like NeNe Leakes and, most noticeably recently, Carole, who is also from RHONY. So why not Bethenny? The answer is likely the fact that, unlike Bethenny, Carole actually made a move to end their feud.
Andy and Carole’s relationship deteriorated after the RHONY reunion in 2018. She believed Andy was siding with Bethenny (the irony!) during their feud, and their disagreements continued after she left the show.
However, unlike Bethenny, who seems content to keep fighting, Carole made the first step toward reconciling with Andy. She returned to WWHL as a surprise guest in 2025. The pair reconnected after recognizing that the high-pressure reality TV environment contributed to their falling out. They mended fences, and Carole even made her RHONY return this year.
This could be a blueprint for Andy and Bethenny’s reconciliation. After all, both relationships were complicated by the Housewives franchise and personal public disagreements. However, there are important differences too. Bethenny’s criticism wasn’t just about her personal relationship with Andy. It also extended to his work and his treatment of reality TV stars. This will be harder for him to overcome.
Still, Carole’s experience proves that years of public tension don’t mean something is broken beyond repair. The only problem is that neither Bethenny nor Andy is willing to extend an olive branch or make the first move.
Andy Cohen’s latest Bethenny Frankel swipe sparked another public clash
The latest back-and-forth just reiterates that neither is willing to let anything go. During Bravo Fan Fest, Andy was questioned about Bethenny possibly returning to RHONY when Carole mentioned the question was above her pay grade. Andy shrugged it off and answered, “I’m not really active on TikTok,” seemingly a dig at Bethenny since she is quite active on the platform.
Bethenny posted a response video quickly where she mockingly said she left Andy “in the same place at Bravo” after her departure and argued the show’s ratings have changed without her. She even suggested he was upset about losing the other OGs like Luann and Dorinda Medley to E!’s new show The Golden Life.
As with their entire feud, fans were divided about the exchange. Some applaud Bethenny for her success and for always being willing to fight back. “Say what you want about Bethenny, she is extremely successful, more so now than ever. Andy is being shady because they had a bitter falling out about Bethenny calling attention to the fact that housewives don’t get residuals like most actors, and she thinks they should,” @JoanGrenier3 wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
While other fans feel that she needs to let things go. “Bethenny never changes. Never learns. Zero growth,” @Mitzyscorner said. “If she doesn’t get exactly what she wants, she’ll do whatever she can to punish her opposition. She can’t let it go.”
Ultimately, Bethenny and Andy’s latest beef reinforces the fact that their reconciliation isn’t happening anytime soon. Unless one of them decides to break the pattern, their shared history may remain a source of more conflict than a reason to reconnect.
