Since Lisa’s arrival in Nigeria on Season 8, she and Daniel have already had several tense disagreements. Lisa’s trip started on a high note when Daniel proposed to her outside of the airport. She accepted, despite promising her daughter Faith that she would take her time.
Shortly after arriving, Lisa discovered that things with Daniel wouldn’t be as easy as she had hoped. Daniel became visibly annoyed with Lisa when she struggled to adjust to Nigerian culture immediately. He became enraged when she couldn’t pronounce Igbo words correctly or tie the traditional headdress. Daniel also has a serious issue with Lisa’s vaping habits. At one point, Lisa walked out of dinner when Daniel was raising his voice and yelling at her for being drunk, although she wasn’t. While Lisa and Daniel had a passionate first meeting, things quickly took a turn for the worse.

She initially told Daniel that she’d been married twice. To make things more complicated, Lisa is still married. She’s waiting on a divorce, although it hasn’t been completed yet. If Lisa and Daniel were to marry, he’d become her sixth spouse. Lisa knows that Daniel likely won’t be happy with this, and has put off telling him for as long as possible.
Another thing Lisa is keeping from Daniel is the fact that she’s only been with women for the past twenty-one years. Lisa has only told Daniel that she’s had a fling with a woman, not that she’s been married to two. Daniel didn’t respond well to the fling, claiming that women being together wasn’t acceptable in his culture. It’s clear that Daniel is not supportive of the LGBTQ community, which makes some viewers unsure why Lisa wants to be with him. When Daniel finds out the truth, it’s possible that his entire relationship with Lisa could blow up.
Lisa lied to Daniel’s uncle to get his blessing
Recently on Season 8, Daniel took Lisa to see his uncle to get his blessing for marriage. Despite his uncle being present at the airport for the engagement, Daniel insisted he still needed to give his blessing. Lisa explained that in America, the blessing was typically given before proposing, but Daniel claimed it was the opposite in Nigeria.
Daniel’s uncle was far less welcoming to Lisa than he was at the airport. He quickly became frustrated with her for not kneeling at the proper times, despite her best efforts to learn more about the culture. Lisa was asked a series of questions, which she wasn’t entirely truthful about. She lied about her smoking habits, as well as the fact that she’s been married to two women. Lisa ultimately received the blessing, but it wasn’t genuine as she didn’t tell the truth. Lisa and Daniel don’t have a connection built on genuine trust, which has made their relationship quite controversial.
