Why It’s Sad the Southern Charm Cast Is Afraid of Craig Conover

Why It’s Sad the Southern Charm Cast Is Afraid of Craig Conover

Personally, Craig Conover has always been a favorite of mine when it comes to Southern Charm. He came across as the lesser of two evils between Shep Rose and Austen Kroll. The lawyer was a true storyteller who never missed a moment to make his point. Like many viewers, he was a little lost in his life after college but eventually found his passion with Sewing Down South. I mostly rooted for Craig until the last two seasons. The Bravoleb has started morphing into a cranky man who rarely wants to hear his friend’s opinions. No wonder half the cast is afraid of him.

Craig Conover needs to behave better on Southern Charm

Season 10 showed Craig really stepping into his new persona. After months of his friends saying that he had changed, Craig finally let Austen and fans know that he had struggled with alcohol. But his behavior didn’t exactly get better after this revelation. There have been multiple times that he just seemed to act out. Part one of the reunion showed him yelling at Leva Bonaparte when she tried to defend JT Thomas. It wasn’t a good look, and the restaurant owner called him out for trying to gaslight her.

Then, there was the chat with Summer House star Kyle Cooke in the dingy. The Loverboy founder was livid that his friend had invested with a rival spritz company. To many viewers, Kyle had every right to be annoyed. But Craig couldn’t grasp that he was actually in the wrong. Instead, he doubled down, telling cameras he was the one who deserved the apology. He even shared that he had Loverboy taken off the shelves at stores his spritz was in. It also struck me as odd that he would go into the alcohol business when he just admitted he rarely drinks anymore. I never thought I’d see the day that Kyle was more mature in a conversation.

Does Craig Conover feel he is the star of the show?

It’s almost like Craig feels like he is the star of the show. He sure acts like he deserves the limelight at all times. But Southern Charm isn’t just about him. It’s always been about the group of friends navigating life and love in Charleston. While it can be argued that Craig has had some terrific storylines, that doesn’t mean he is the lead role. Shep had a fantastic season as he opened up about his feelings for Sienna Evans. Craig has kind of turned into a one-trick pony. All fans see is him working on his podcast or pillow extensions. Then he filmed in his beloved backyard. And while I enjoyed the honeybee segment immensely, it wasn’t exactly Southern Charm material.

But every time I’ve seen Craig recently on Watch What Happens Live or in an interview, he seems to be floating on Cloud 9, almost untouchable. Some of the big hitters have indeed left the show, like Kathryn Dennis and Thomas Ravenel, but others have come in with much more gusto than Craig. Even though he isn’t returning, JT held court for two seasons, and all Craig could do was lie about his verbiage to Patricia Altschul.

Why the Southern Charm cast fearing Craig Conover makes sense

Recently, Rodrigo Reyes spoke with Us Weekly to explain why he and some of his castmates aren’t enjoying filming with Craig. Rod was one of the many who raised his hand during the reunion to admit he was afraid of the Bravoleb. He told the outlet, “Craig wants things his way. Listen, I get that. I can be the same way, and sometimes that can come across as being domineering, I guess.” Austen was caught saying, “I am terrified of Craig. I feel like, I’m just going to get backhanded for, like, stepping out of line.” Along with Rod, Leva, JT, and Venita Aspen raised their hands in agreement.

“I genuinely get along with everyone. I just feel like sometimes it’s easy to take a step back and not take yourself so seriously.” But in his opinion, Craig’s seriousness is “probably” the very thing that has made the cast fearful. However, Rod has hope that Craig will see the error in his ways. “Now that Craig’s single, [I hope he] spends more time with his friends [and] we can get back to us just having a good time. That’s what I’m hopeful for, and I just want everyone to have a good time.”

Southern Charm is available to stream on Peacock.
