Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot Finds Herself in a Die Hard 3-Like Scenario in The Runner Trailer

The Runner trailer is out, and it shows Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot racing against time on the streets of London. The upcoming action thriller is helmed by Oscar winner Kevin Macdonald (One Day in September). The first look is already giving impressions of a modern-day Die Hard 3.

The official synopsis for The Runner reads, “In the pulse-pounding psychological thriller The Runner, Maia Marten (Gal Gadot) has built her life on being one step ahead — a sharp, resourceful, high-powered lawyer at the top of London’s legal world.”

Check out The Runner trailer below (watch more trailers):

What happens in The Runner trailer?

The Runner trailer presents Gal Gadot as Maia, an elite lawyer at the top of London’s legal system. However, her normal routine takes a hit after a phone call. She gets to know that her son has been taken away, and now she must follow some simple, yet merciless, instructions to get him back.

Maia must keep moving while following every command without telling anyone. If she stops, her son dies. She is forced to sprint through the entire city and obey a chain of sinister commands while facing one inevitable question: how far will she go to bring her son home?

The Runner has been described as “a visceral, high-stakes race where every second counts, every choice carries a price, and a mother’s unstoppable love becomes the most dangerous weapon of all.”

Interestingly, the plot of The Runner closely resembles that of the iconic 1995 Bruce Willis movie Die Hard 3. While that film didn’t involve any child being kidnapped, the story did feature Jeremy Irons’ character, Simon, calling Willis’ character, John, on the phone and forcing him to do a lot of unwanted, crazy things. And if he refused, the bomb would go off.

However, it’s too early to draw any parallels; one would need to wait for The Runner’s release to learn more.

The pulse-pounding psychological thriller is written by Mark Gibson (The Wild, Snow Dogs). Besides Gadot, the cast also includes Damian Lewis (Billions, Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood), Rory Wilmot (Harry Potter, Unchosen), and Alfred Enoch (Harry Potter franchise).

Amazon MGM Studios’ The Runner has yet to receive an official release date window.
