Yulissa Escobar on ‘Online Brutality’ After N-Word Scandal

After getting kicked out of the villa on Love Island USA for using the N-word on various podcasts, Yulissa Escobar is now feeling like a victim. She just called out fans for their “online brutality,” and she said that she refuses to be “erased” over this controversy. It’s a shocking switch-up from the apology she issued to her social media last week. So, what happened to cause the change of attitude?

As a quick reminder, Yulissa appeared in one measly episode of Love Island USA before producers unceremoniously removed her from the villa in Season 7 Episode 2. A few days later, she issued an apology, claiming she didn’t understand that using anti-Black slurs could be so damaging.

At that point, we were fully ready to let this woman slither back into whatever podcast studio she came from. Love Island airs way too often to focus on someone who isn’t there. However, she has reemerged with another message for Love Island fans. This time, it’s a little less remorseful.

“Cancel culture isn’t accountability. It’s online brutality,” Yulissa began in a series of Instagram Stories shared by TMZ.

According to Yulissa, she’s received “death threats” and “abuse” from fans feeling outraged by the resurfaced videos of her saying the N-word. After not having her phone during her brief time in the villa, she said she got her phone back and got hit with all of the online backlash at once. She said navigating the backlash felt like walking into a “warzone.”

“Cyberbullying is violence. Period,” Yulissa continued, before acknowledging people who “don’t survive” it.

“For the ones who didn’t make it — may you rest in peace,” Yulissa continued. “For the ones who are scared to speak — I got you. And for myself — because I’m done staying quiet. My name is Yulissa Escobar, and this is NOT where my story ends.”

Yulissa capped off her message with a few hashtags, including “#AccountableNotErased” and “#CancelCancelCulture.” So, that means we haven’t heard the last from this lady. We’re just hoping she doesn’t start a podcast.

Love Island USA continues on Peacock.
