5 New Horror Releases Streaming This February

    Stephen King

I don’t know about you, but I’m all about staying home this month. I’ve had enough of this winter and want to curl up with my remote, TV, and snacks. I really want to work toward becoming the crone I aspire to be. So, I searched the internet to see what new horror titles are hitting the streaming streets this February. I was surprised to find quite a few gems I want to revisit or movies I think will find their audience now that they’re more accessible.

This month brings a cool new werewolf entry, a vampire rom-com, two wildly different takes on time travel, and that sexy little thriller that set our group chats on fire last year. So, the February programming options might be the distractions we truly need from the world. Check out the five new horror releases I think are worth your time while you’re still subscribed to all these streamers.

    My Animal (dir. Jacqueline Castel)

    Where You Can Watch: Shudder

An outcast with a big secret falls for a new girl in her small town. It has taken years for My Animal to land on a streamer, and I’m so excited for more people to find it. The film tackles questions of generational trauma, identity, the need to belong, and so much more. This lesbian romantic horror mashup deserves so much more attention. It is a whole mood and stars Bobbi Salvör Menuez and Amandla Stenberg as your new favorite doomed couple. If you stay in on Valentine’s Day, this movie needs to be on the agenda. It is a big step forward for women werewolves and indie horror films that are too cool for school. This movie should be toward the top of your new streaming release pile.

My Animal is out now on Shudder.

Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Adult (dir. Ariane Louis-Seize)

    Where You Can Watch: Shudder

A young vampire with too much empathy to kill humans for their blood meets a young man with suicidal tendencies. Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person is possibly the cutest movie of 2024. If you are in the mood for a vampire rom-com this Hallmark holiday, this toothy moment might be for you. The film nods at Let the Right One In and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, but has Beetlejuice vibes with a hint of Only Lovers Left Alive. All that to say, it is a darkly humorous take on love in the afterlife. I’m glad it’s landing on Shudder to help people still upset that What We Do in the Shadows is gone for good.

Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Adult arrives on Shudder on February 10.

    Omni Loop (dir. Bernardo Britto)

    Where You Can Watch: Hulu

A dying woman attempts to solve time travel and go back in time to make different choices. Mary-Louise Parker and Ayo Edebiri work hard to charm your pants off in this 2024 sentimental sci-fi comedy. Omni Loop is one of those rare little gems that no matter where you land on it, you can’t help but find it a little delightful. While it was too sweet for my taste, I really dug what Bernardo Britto was doing with this movie. I think the reminder to live in the present is one many of us need to hear right now. If you want to support an indie film with great actors, cool ideas, and something to say, this is your movie. It also doesn’t hurt to see Edebiri in a genre movie while we wait for Opus to drop in March.

Omni Loop arrives on Hulu on February 11.

    Strange Darling (dir. J.T. Mollner)

Where You Can Watch: Prime Video

A one-night stand spirals into a murder spree for a serial killer. Strange Darling was one of my favorite horror movies of last year. Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner‘s performances elevate a twisty thriller where nothing is as it seems. I loved the cinematography, soundtrack, ending, and just the general vibe. The film is a truly unique experience that plays with its audience. I cannot wait for more people to discover it while it’s on Prime Video. This indie darling was one of the best things to happen to me and my TV last year, and I can’t wait to see it again. This is my favorite film on this list of new releases, and I hope everyone checks it out. However, I recommend going into it knowing as little as possible for maximum fun.

Strange Darling arrives on Prime Video on February 17.

    Things Will Be Different (2024)

    Where You Can Watch: Hulu

After committing a robbery, two estranged siblings hide out in a farmhouse that teleports them through time. They soon find out this time travel comes with dangerous threats that will test their fragile relationship. I love a little time travel with my thrillers, so I had fun with this movie. It is also impossible to not get overly invested in the sibling dynamics at the forefront of this compelling tale. However, I was mostly impressed by how Things Will Be Different rocked their small budget to make something really cool and engaging. More of us need to remember that imagination is a huge part of getting our projects off the ground. If you missed this sci-fi adventure in 2024, you should catch it while it’s on Hulu.

Things Will Be Different arrives on Hulu on February 21.

Are you planning to add any of these new movies to your February watchlist? Let me know which ones you are looking at @misssharai.
