Bill Maher slammed President Donald Trump ‘s visit to China to meet with President Xi Jinping as a “lovefest” — will also calling out Fox News host Sean Hannity for his “softball” questions.
On the Friday, May 15 episode of Real Time With Bill Maher, the late-night host, 70, criticized the POTUS, 79, and Hannity, 64, during his opening monologue. “Relations with China, I can just tell they’re better now,” he snarked. “I ordered takeout today, and the menu said, ‘Go ahead, make some substitutions.’”
Maher continued, “But honestly, Trump: He hates China, but he loves Xi. To say this was a lovefest between these two guys was an understatement. As he left, Trump thanked Xi profusely for his hospitality. And Xi thanked Trump for making China way more popular around the world.”
During his monologue, the stand-up comedian also addressed Xi’s calling the U.S. a declining nation, as well as Trump’s response.
On Truth Social, the POTUS wrote, “When President Xi very elegantly referred to the United States as perhaps being a declining nation, he was referring to the tremendous damage we suffered during the four years of Sleepy Joe Biden and the Biden Administration, and on that score, he was 100% correct.”
Maher also drew attention to the “tech bros” Trump brought with him on his trip to China, including SpaceX and Neuralink founder Elon Musk and Apple CEO Tim Cook. He joked, “Very sweet moment when the CEO of Apple saw all the kids, and he said, ‘Get back to work!’”
He added, “We’ve got Elon Musk, he was there in a suit. You don’t see that often, and that shows the respect Elon Musk has for the Chinese leadership. And out of respect for the one-child rule that was a pillar of Chinese society for so long, while he was in China for two days, Elon only fathered one child.” (Musk brought his son, X Æ A-Xii, 6, to the Beijing summit; he has seven kids in total.)
Finally, Maher called out Hannity, quipping, “I don’t want to say Sean Hannity lobs a lot of softballs. But today, he was made an honorary lesbian.”
