California Teens Unable To Escape, Killed In Tesla Crash

A Tesla Cybertruck crash in Piedmont, California, reportedly caused the death of three people. According to reports, two of the victims were teenagers. Since then, the family of one of the victims has taken measures to get answers.

A Driver & Two Passengers Lost Their Lives In The Crash

Three people were killed when the Tesla they were driving crashed at high speed into a tree in Piedmont, California, back in November. This included driver Soren Dixon and passengers Krysta Tsukahara and Jack Nelson.

Dixon and Tsukahara were both 19 years old at the time of their death, while Nelson was 20. A fourth person was also said to have been injured in the crash. Reportedly, the fourth person was saved by a friend who was following them in another car.

Since then, legal action has been taken against Tesla over the incident. Back in April, Krysta’s parents, Carl and Noelle, tried to get answers by filing a lawsuit. On October 2, they also filed an amended wrongful death lawsuit.

As noted by KTVU Fox 2, this suit alleged that Tesla’s Cybertruck design, especially its doors, made it almost impossible for Krysta to escape the vehicle. The complaint, which was filed in Alameda County Superior Court, claimed that Krysta initially endured minor injuries from the crash. However, according to The New York Times, it further claimed she lost her life when the car battery caught fire, dying from burns and smoke inhalation.

The Three Involved In The Crash Were Said To Be Home On Thanksgiving Break

A few others were also listed as defendants in the suit. This included Dixon’s estate and the truck’s owner, Charles Patterson.

In a statement, Krysta’s father, Carl, shared, “Krysta was a bright, kind, and accomplished young woman with her whole life ahead of her. We’ve had to endure not only the loss of our daughter, but the silence surrounding how this happened and why she couldn’t get out.”

Carl continued, “This company is worth a trillion dollars–how can you release a machine that’s not safe in so many ways?” Speaking with The New York Times, Carl also shared, “Our life is never going to be the same, and there are other families just like us.”

The complaint also reportedly maintains that Tesla’s use of power-dependent door latches go against basic safety standards. It also alleges that this ignores a decade of warnings and documented incidents concerning Tesla models.

Family attorney Roger Dreyer also shared, “This lawsuit is about truth and accountability. The design of this vehicle failed Krysta. There was no functioning, accessible manual override or emergency release for her to escape. Her death was preventable.”

According to The San Francisco Chronicle, all four figures involved in the crash were college students at home for Thanksgiving break. They were also described as graduates of Piedmont High School. The three deaths have also been ruled accidental.
