President Donald Trump appeared to highlight his son Eric Trump over Donald Trump Jr. in a Father’s Day message that praised Eric’s work and dedication.
The president heaps praise on his son, Eric Trump, saying he is “real” and has put in substantial work in the presidential campaign for his father.
A Trump Organization Father’s Day tribute highlights Eric Trump over Donald Trump Jr.
In the Father’s Day tribute, the Trump-aligned organization, the president was seen praising Eric by suggesting that Eric benefited less from his famous last name or the Trump fortune than from having a father who “showed up” and led by example.
The message also said that the four-year presidential term was not a random result; rather, it is the result of Eric’s dedication to his work. The message added, “He is, by all accounts, someone who genuinely loves the work — the construction, the design, the tangible satisfaction of standing in front of something he helped build. He has spoken often about his deep love for the outdoors, for skiing, for the shooting sports. He is, in a word, real.”
However, the total omission of Don Jr. in the tribute, following the president’s conspicuous absence from his recent wedding with socialite Bettina Anderson on a private island in the Bahamas, has raised concerns.
Entertainment columnist Rob Shuter added that Don Jr.’s chances could be affected by the omission in the message: “People inside the family are asking the same question. If Trump couldn’t show up for one of the biggest days of his son’s life, how enthusiastic would he really be about backing a presidential campaign?”
The president had earlier skipped his son’s wedding, citing important government work and because he loves his country. The omission has fueled speculation about whether Don Jr. remains part of the president’s future plans, despite using his wedding as a “strategy” to inherit the presidential legacy.
