Despite rising gas prices being a point of concern for most US citizens, Donald Trump seems to think that the inflated costs are completely justified. During a recent speech, the POTUS defended the ballooning gas prices amid the ongoing war against Iran by reiterating the importance of his campaign in the Middle East. Moreover, Trump asked the public to comply with the rise in fares, going as far as to say that he’ll “never apologize” for the mismanagement.
Donald Trump is asking voters to accept higher gas prices amid Iran war
While addressing voters during a political rally in Garden City, New York on August 14, Donald Trump blatantly justified the steep growth in gas prices across the country by once again emphasizing the importance of the war in Iran.
In his speech, Trump urged the people “to pay a tiny little bit more for your gasoline,” as per the clip shared by Acyn. He added, “Just remember, you’re doing it so that a very evil country [that is] the number one state sponsor of terror in the world. We don’t want to have them have a nuclear weapon. So remember that when you have to pay a little bit more, you’re at $4. It’s okay. I’ll never apologize, I did the right thing.”
Notably, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has continued to affect gas prices in the country ever since the war in Iran commenced. At the time of writing, the national average of regular gas stands at $4.06, which is slightly higher than $3.94, the average recorded a month ago. Given that the average price stood at $3.14 a year ago, prices have increased by approximately 30% in the past 12 months, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan summed up the change in a recent X (formerly Twitter) update, writing, “Americans today will spend $338 million more on gasoline than they did one year ago, or $2.35 billion more every week.”
