Klitschko filed a petition asking a court to name him temporary guardian of Kaya’s estate, according to TMZ. He says Kaya does not live in California but has a right to Panettiere’s assets there. He argues that California courts have authority over the estate because Kaya stands to inherit those assets. Klitschko wants to safeguard his daughter’s financial assets in the probate proceedings.
The former boxer also raised concerns about Panettiere’s home and belongings. He states that the federal agents did come in as part of an investigation and confiscated some of her property. Klitschko wants to be the one who stands for the estate so he can get those things back once the investigation is finished. He states that the protection of the property is now crucial.
Klitschko also pointed to security steps Panettiere took before her death. He states that she hired a security company because she thought someone had broken into her property. After her death, another company changed the locks on her home. Storage units holding designer clothes and accessories that Panettiere wore for public appearances also moved to another location as a precaution.
In court papers obtained by the outlet, Klitschko warned that someone could try to take more property from the estate. “It is expected that the individual will continue to try and misappropriate property belonging to Hayden’s estate,” he said in the filing. He also said Panettiere’s high-profile estate needs a representative right away. Klitschko wants that person to safeguard her home and belongings.
Panettiere passed away on Aug. 16. She left behind her daughter Kaya with Klitschko. The latest court filing now puts Kaya’s inheritance and Panettiere’s belongings at the center of a legal dispute. Klitschko’s request asks the court to give him temporary authority to protect those interests.
