HGTV’s Mika Kleinschmidt Scores Surprising Role on the Stage

    What To Know

    • HGTV star Mika Kleinschmidt will return to live theater in a Florida production of C0me From Away.
    • Kleinschmidt received an outpouring of support from fans after announcing her casting on social media.
    • Kleinschmidt currently serves as a mentor on Season 5 of HGTV’s Battle on the Beach.

Mika Kleinschmidt is taking her talents off the small screen and onto the stage.

In a Friday, June 26, Facebook post, the 100 Day Dream Home star revealed that she will soon be starring in a production of the musical Come From Away. “Thrilled to be going back to live theater and performing on stage with these wonderful people,” she wrote. “Looking forward to starting our journey together and telling this beautiful story. Tickets available starting 6/29.”

Fans congratulated Kleinschmidt on her new role in the post’s comments. “Congratulations!!! will have to come see you in this,” one user wrote. Another added, “I was fortunate to see this production before and I loved it. You’re tapping skills will be put to good use!” Someone else shared, “Beyond excited for you to experience this! Can’t wait to see you perform! Congratulations!!!!!!”

A different person posted, “This is such a great show! Excited for you to be in it!” A separate commenter stated, “One of my favorite Broadway shows of all time! Break a leg!”

Kleinschmidt shared her acting news alongside Eight O’Clock Theatre’s official cast list announcement for the production. Per the post, the HGTV star will play Hannah, among other characters.

“Meet the cast of Eight O’Clock Theatre’s Come From Away. In the days following September 11, 2001, nearly 7,000 stranded passengers found unexpected kindness in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland,” the post read. “What followed is one of the most extraordinary true stories of compassion, resilience, and the good we are capable of in our darkest moments.”

The post continued, “This September, as we reflect on the anniversary of 9/11, these incredible performers will bring that story to life on our stage. Join us September 4–13 for a powerful story that reminds us that even in times of uncertainty, hope begins with humanity. Congratulations to our cast! Tickets are on sale now at www.eightoclocktheatre.com.”

According to an October 2020 interview with the MAD Theatre of Tampa, Kleinschmidt has a lot of past theater experience, having appeared in local Florida productions of Cabaret, American Idiot, and Rent.

Mika and her husband, Brian Kleinschmidt, have been HGTV staples since their flagship series, 100 Day Dream Home, premiered in 202. The couple has appeared on several of the network’s shows over the years, including Home Town Kickstart and House Hunters: All Stars. The pair also won competition shows such as Rock the Block and Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge.

Mika currently serves as a mentor on Season 5 of Battle on the Beach. “I [did] have moments of wanting to take my microphone off and be like, ‘Hold up a second, wait a second.’ But it wasn’t, like, a breakdown,” she exclusively told TV Insider of filming the competition series earlier this month. “But you know why I think so? Because it was interesting how they paired each of us up with our teams.”

She continued, “I don’t know if it was strategic, but I feel like as mentors, we had to learn real quick because there was similarities, but not really. I feel like my team was quiet, calm. I’m like, ‘That is not me.’ And so, it was interesting how we had to take that mentor thing and go, ‘Hold on. What do they need from me instead of me trying to be my normal, 100%, bossy self?’ That was hard, I’m not gonna lie.”
