Shudder has become a great resource for horror movies. Yes, it’s another monthly subscription fee, but in this case, it might be worth it. With its acquisition from AMC Networks and their money tank, Shudder is a ripe platform to showcase festival favorites or foreign films that need a distribution vendor.
They aren’t quite at A24 or Neon’s level, but they are catching up. For instance, The Rule of Jenny Pen got a small release window in theaters but headed right over to Shudder (under their Originals label) once that opportunity was exhausted.
We love their catalog, which hasn’t changed much since they started, so you can see how their quality has progressed over time. We aren’t affiliated or sponsored by Shudder, but we have to give credit where credit’s due, and for a site dedicated to the thing we love most, it’s a great place to indulge.
We have picked out 10 favorite Shudder Originals of our own below. But don’t stop with our suggestions, look through all of their titles and you are certainly going to find something that interests you.
For those on the fence about another monthly fee, they do offer a free trial period, which is great to take advantage of, especially if you’re on a budget.
