Lee Cronin Wants to Make an “A Nightmare on Elm Street’ Movie

It’s a big day for Lee Cronin fans. Not only is his latest feature, The Mummy, now playing in theaters, but we’ve received quite a few updates on the filmmaker’s upcoming projects. We already reported on Cronin’s development of a new horror feature as well as a TV series. Hidden within that same Variety interview, he also mentioned what one of his dream projects would be…directing an A Nightmare on Elm Street movie.

Said Cronin when asked about his Mt. Rushmore of film projects, “I would find it very hard not to have a swing at ol’ Freddy Krueger, because he haunted my nightmares throughout my entire childhood and still pops up about four times a year.“

Don’t get too excited, though, because Cronin doesn’t intend for Freddy to haunt his dreams any time soon.

Continued the filmmaker, “But I actually think it’s unlikely that my next movie will be franchise adjacent — and that’s something that feels important to me right now.“

Who knows if or when we’ll finally see Freddy return to the big screen (it’s been sixteen long years since the disastrous Elm Street remake). Still, Cronin would be an interesting choice. The director has proven to have a penchant for relentless, gross, bloody terror, all elements in Freddy’s wheelhouse. And even though I didn’t love The Mummy, I have no doubt he’d deliver one vicious Nightmare movie.

More than anything, though, I just hope Freddy comes back sooner than later. I’m tired of waiting for a dog to piss fire on his grave.
