Cradle Of Fear Blu-ray Movie Review by Matt Boiselle
First off, I’d love to offer a hearty THANK YOU to the good folks over at MVDShop.com for hooking me up with this review copy – you all are the best and it’s greatly appreciated. Now that the pleasantries have been dispensed, we can hose off the autopsy slab and get right down to the sifting through of this movie’s viscera, especially now that it’s been given the golden Blu-ray limited collector’s edition treatment.
“Cradle Of Fear”, originally released back in 2001 and starring Cradle Of Filth frontman Dani Filth as “The Man”, his presence over the course of the runtime is best suited to instill a sense of fear, dread, and the unknowing to the viewer. His showing isn’t really one built on performance as it is imagery, and his depiction of a demon-of-sorts does its best to progress this anthology along, aside from the occasional stumbling blocks in plot-progression. Casting an almost comic-book like shadow over the course of 4 short stories, Filth oversees a couple of goth girls dealing with the after-effects of a one night stand gone horrifically wrong, a duo of bank robbers delving into their innermost fears, the waning consciousness of a cocaine-addicted socialite and an internet junkie whose web-curiosities may well get the better of them. All in all it’s a wayward schism of grainy video and practical fx – some work and some don’t, but it’s the slew of special features that carry this psychotic assembly across the river Styx.
