Chuckie Fuoco and Wolf Turner have always been horror film fans. They recently teamed up to start the Nashville Horror Fest, a festival giving independent horror filmmakers an outlet to share their craft. Screamify recently sat down with Chuckie and Wolf to get the scoop on the festival.

Who are you, and what is your role with the Nashville Horror Fest?

After attending countless festivals with films we’ve been involved in, we realized about five years ago that we wanted to create one of our own. When Chuckie moved to Nashville last year we together launched the Nashville Horror Film Festival.

What does the Nashville Horror Fest consist of?

This year, the festival showcases 40 short films, 9 feature films, 39 scripts. We kick things off at New Heights Brewery with short film screenings, vendors, and a costume contest, while the feature films screen at Regal Cinemas at Green Hills.

What is the goal of the Nashville Horror Fest?

For both of us, the biggest goal has always been to give talented filmmakers an outlet where their work can be seen and celebrated. Winning an award here isn’t just about recognition, it’s something filmmakers can use as momentum to push their careers forward.

What is your process for choosing the films that are shown at the festival?

When selecting films, we look at everything from storytelling to production value. Sometimes a film might not have the biggest budget, but if the idea is strong and it’s executed well, that can be just as powerful as a high-production piece.

What particular films are you’re excited for attendees to see?

Personally, we’re both huge werewolf fans, and we’re excited that we have a little of that in the lineup this year. We had a record number of submissions, so the quality across the board is outstanding.

How can attendees get involved with the Nashville Horror Fest (including submit their own movie)?

If you’re a filmmaker interested in submitting, you can do so at Filmfreeway.com. Just look up the Nashville Horror Film Festival.

What is your personal favorite horror film and why?

Wolf’s favorite horror film of all time is Salem’s Lot (1979).

Chuckie’s favorite horror film of all time is The Lost Boys (1987).

The Nashville Horror Fest kicks off October 4th at New Heights Brewing and is sponsored by Screamify and Regal.
