Natalia Grace’s story serves as the subject of the Investigation Discovery series The Curious Case of Natalia Grace. Thanks to this, Grace has often been subject to speculation from viewers. Grace has recently opened about her life and the rumors surrounding her.
Natalia Grace Admitted How She Really Feels Being Filmed
Grace was born in Ukraine with dwarfism. In 2010, she was adopted by an American family, but given up two years later.
At the time, Grace’s adoptive parents alleged she was a legal adult. However, DNA testing would later claim she was nine years old she was abandoned by her adoptive parents.
Grace’s story was showcased in series, The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, which was renamed The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks during its second season. Her life is also expected to be the subject of the drama series, Good American Family.
Grace recently spoke to People to share more of her side of the story. As she notes, “I have anxiety all the way to the roof.”
Despite being the subject of a television series, Grace admitted, “I actually don’t like being filmed or being on a TV show. I’m more of a quiet girl who enjoys sitting on a porch swing with a book and a hot chocolate or coffee in the morning.”
As she on the show, Grace will start living with her third adoptive family, the DePauls. The publication described them as “a supportive family of little people who originally tried to adopt Natalia in 2009.”
Grace Also Talked About Having Her Birth Date Changed
Grace has been the subject of rumors for years, even from her adoptive parents. As she noted, “There were a lot of people saying, ‘You’re fake. You’re a liar. You’re a pedophile.’ I’m also known for the little girl that was helpless and was beaten and starved and all that.”
“That’s not who I am. But that seems to be the only thing that people know—and that’s why it hurts me a lot.”
Back in 2012, Grace’s adoptive parents, the Barnetts, successfully petitioned to legally change her birth year from 2003 to 1989 in a process called, “re-aging.”
Natalia touched on this during the interview. As she noted, “I really disliked being the girl who was re-aged and lived in her own apartment.”
“I didn’t understand why I was alone. I just knew I had this instinct in me to push and survive. All I was told was, ‘You’re 22 now. Whenever somebody asks you what your age is, you say you’re 22 and you tried to murder your family.’ I was taught to lie.”
Over the years, Grace has also been accused of trying her harm her adoptive families. Regarding these allegations, she felt that, “I feel like I have to defend myself and be like, ‘Do I look like somebody that could push someone twice my size into a fence? Do I look like I could even grip a knife?’”
Looking back at her life, Grace also noted, “For the most part, I’ve made peace. It is definitely a blessing to be alive today. And there’s nothing I can do to change the past.”
