Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King have an iconic friendship that’s spanned decades at this point. Despite continued rumors that they are secretly romantically involved, the pair continue to show up together and have fun. Keep reading to find out what the pair are up to this time.
Fighting Rumors
Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey have been best friends for what seems like forever. In fact, they first met in 1976 when they were both in their twenties. The friendship has gone on for so long and has been so deep that people assume they are lesbians together. As previously reported, it was speculated that that’s why Gayle’s marriage to William Bumpus ended. However, that’s not the case. In fact, he was caught cheating on her after they were married for 9 years.
“I was recently divorced and The National Enquirer did a story about, ‘That’s the reason for the divorce because they’re secretly gay,’” Gayle reveals.
Apparently, these rumors have really bothered her.
“Number one, if we were gay, we would tell you because believe me, there’s nothing wrong with it,” she says. “It’s just, I prefer a man. So, we would tell you.”
At the time, Gayle even begged Oprah to clear things up on her show; however, she never did, saying that they needed to just leave it alone.
Oprah Winfrey And Gayle Are Still Besties
Despite these rumors that have been going on for decades now, the women still have a fabulous friendship that they love to show off. They certainly don’t let any of the rumors get in their way. In fact, according to Women’s Wear Daily, they were even twinning at a recent event they attended.
Both Oprah and Gayle went to the premiere of Everest: The Other Side this past weekend. The event took place in Telluride, Colorado, so naturally the women both opted for boots. Gayle went for a slightly lighter shade of tan suede while Oprah’s is just a shade darker. Gayle’s are also a tad bit pointier than her bestie’s boots. Of course, both of them look incredible as they pose for photos together.
Aside from their matching boots, their outfits are totally different, although they look great side by side. Gayle is sporting a brown, long-sleeve turtleneck-style top. Over that, she has on a long, dark-denim dress.
Meanwhile, Oprah is sporting an all-white ensemble. She has a very textured pair of white pants with a matching textured white jacket. Underneath, she keeps it clean and simple with just a white tee. She finishes off her look with a pair of oversized shades and big curls.
