Charles Spencer shared shocking details about the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death in his upcoming book, Swan Song: Diana My Sister. He revealed that the Royal Family declined a request made by the Spencer family. The request was specifically about the music that would be played for Diana during her funeral.
Charles Spencer says Royal Family denied funeral request
In the first excerpt of Charles Spencer’s memoir, published by the Daily Mail, he revealed that Buckingham Palace considered Princess Diana part of the Royal Family even after her death. He stated that they expected the Spencer family to follow their decisions around the funeral, despite Diana’s divorce from King Charles. He claimed that he tried to make a specific request about the choice of music at the funeral, which was seemingly turned down by the Palace.
“My sisters knew that Diana had always wanted Mozart’s Requiem to be played for her, after her death,” the Earl added. Spencer was allegedly told that “no part of a requiem can be played at a Church of England funeral.” However, he said, “I later found out that was not the case – the first of several untruths that the authorities would push my way at that time.”
Moreover, Spencer shed light on the behavior of people in the Palace towards him and his family. The 9th Earl Spencer said that while some treated him with kindness, there were a few who were “relieved” that Diana was no more.
The news comes after it was learned that Prince Harry is rumored to produce a television movie about Diana ahead of her 30th death anniversary next year. Meghan Markle is reportedly set to narrate it. But royal expert Kinsey Schofield suggested that this move by Harry could “infuriate” William. “If the documentary began using Diana’s experiences to reinforce Harry and Meghan’s existing narrative about themselves, I think that would be where it becomes too much for William,” she added to Fox News Digital.
