    Row K’s ‘Dead Man’s Wire’, ‘No Other Choice’

    Row K’s ‘Dead Man’s Wire’, ‘No Other Choice’


    Row K had a great debut weekend with Dead Man’s Wire.

    No Other Choice is on a roll for Neon with the distributor deep in the Golden Globes’ mix The Park Chan-wook film as well as The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value. It Was Just An Accident and Sirāt repping five of the six nominations tonight for Best Motion Picture, Non-English Language (among other noms). Willa’s The Voice Of Hind Rajab by Kaouther Ben Hania is the sixth.

    And moviegoers turned out to indies from Rosemead to The Chronology of Water, All That’s Left Of You and more, new and holding over, limited, wide and top ten.

    Row K Entertainment’s presentation of Gus Van Sant’s Dead Man’s Wire opened on 14 screens to a solid $154.1. At 93% Certified Fresh film on Rotten Tomatoes, it expands wide next weekend. The Venice and TIFF-premiering film is the inaugural release from Row K. The distributor from Media Capital Technologies launched last August (named for the seat often considered the best view in the theater). It’s led by co-chairs Christopher Woodrow and Raj Singh, President Megan Colligan and Head of Distribution and Acquisitions Steve Garrett.

    Comedy thriller No Other Choice generated over $1.3 million from 147 screens in weekend 3 and has become the director’s highest grossing film in the U.S. with a cume pushing $3.7 million.

    Vertical’s Rosemead starring Lucy Liu was back in the marketplace in 46 theaters grossing an estimated $103.8k for a cume of $196k.

    The Voice Of Hind Rajab, also Tunisia’s shortlisted Oscar submission for Best International Film, grossed an estimated $78.3k in its first limited expansion in week 4 adding theaters in San Francisco, Boston, Washington and Chicago while continuing to play in New York and LA. The cume since its December 17 opening stands at $164.2k.Cast members and the director appeared at sold out shows in each of the markets. Continues to expand next week.

    Kristen Stewart’s Cannes-premiering feature directorial debut The Chronology of Water grossed an estimated $75k on 37 screens for a cume to date of $105.8k. Distributed by The Forge, the film based on the acclaimed memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch, screened to a number of sold out shows with Q&As in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Toronto and LA. in a mix of independent arthouse theaters and mainstream circuits in 21 markets. Follows one-week qualifying runs in December. At 90% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Expands to Boston, D.C., Montreal and additional markets next week.

    Multigenerational Oscar-shortlisted international feature All That’s Left Of You from Watermelon Pictures and filmmaker Cherien Dabis opened to a nice $56.1k on two screens, the Angelika in NY and Laemmle Royal in LA.

    Janus Films’ opening of Lav Diaz’s Magellan starring Gael Garcia Bernal on two screens in NY and LA grossed an estimated $28.3k. The distributor’s rollout of Bi Gan’s acclaimed Resurrection grossed an estimated $44k in week 5 on 39 screens for a cume of $459k.

    Albert Birney’s Sundance-premiering Obex from Oscilloscope Labs opened to $9.84k on one screen, the IFC Center in NY. Adds select markets next week and continues to expand nationally with an anticipated hometown premiere in Baltimore at Warehouse Cinemas Rotunda Jan. 23.

    Searchlight’s The Testament of Ann Lee held in four theaters in week 4 taking in an estimated gross of $39k for the weekend for a cume of $356.5k. By Mona Fastvold, starring Amanda Seyfried.

    Mubi’s Father Mother Sister Brother from Jim Jarmusch, continued its platform rollout in weekend 3 with an estimated $343.8k from 253 theaters (up 249 theaters from last weekend) for a $552.7k cume.

    Prathyangira Cinemas’s The Raja Saab by Maruthi Dasari opened in 620 theaters to a debut weekend of $2,3 million.

    Wide: A24’s Marty Supreme by Josh Safdie, starring Timothee Chalamet grossed $7.6 million for a $70.1 million cume. In week 4. At no. 6 at the domestic box office.

    Song Sung Blue from Focus Features starring Golden Globe-nominated Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman continues to hold well in week 3 grossing $3 million from 2,262 theaters in Norh America. The film’s estimated cume to date is $31 millionwith continued strong word of mouth and overperformance in the middle of the US. Rounds out the top ten.

    Angel Studios’ animated David grossed $3.1 million on 2,475 screens in week 5 for a cume of $75.2 million. Angel’s new drama I Was A Stranger debuted to $1.2 million on 1,400 screens.

    Searchlight Pictures’ Is This Thing On? by Bradley Cooper adds 1,442 locations in week 4 for a $2.4 million weekend and a cume of $3.5 million.

    Event: The Met: Live in HD transmission of Bellini’s I Puritani grossed $776k in North America at about 800 cinema screens. Conducted by Maestro Marco Armiliato and starring soprano
