‘Sunset Blvd.’ Ends Broadway Run With New Record Of .5M

Sunset Blvd. went out on a high note Sunday, packing the St. James Theatre and handily breaking a couple of that venue’s house records with a weekly gross of $2,481,018.

With its final week performance, Sunset now holds the St. James’ record for highest grossing single performance ($514,515, Sunday, July 20, easily topping previous record holder Frozen‘s $337,505). The musical’s final weekly take is now the highest gross at the venue for a non-holiday week (previous record was $2,275,395 set by Frozen for the week ending April 8, 2018).

That $2,481,018 gross for the week ending July 20 was $506,285 more that Sunset‘s take the previous week.

Sunset also was the highest grossing Broadway show for the week. Runners up were Wicked ($2,412,935), The Lion King ($2,218,487), and Hamilton ($2,187,780). Scoring at least $1 million were & Juliet, Aladdin, Buena Vista Social Club, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Death Becomes Her, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Just in Time, Maybe Happy Ending, MJ, Moulin Rouge!, Oh, Mary!, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, The Great Gatsby and The Outsiders.

The figure for Just in Time – $1,327,585 – was the Bobby Darin musical’s best number since it opened April 26. Starring Jonathan Groff, Just in Time has never grossed below $1 million or played to less than 100.26%. This week’s attendance at Circle in the Square was 103.8%, the highest attendance-capacity ratio of all 29 Broadway productions.

The struggling Call Me Izzy struggled a bit more last week, with four performances (with Jean Smart understudy Johanna Day) canceled. The gross for four performances was $56,519, with attendance at Studio 54 just 30% of capacity. Smart, who has been on leave due to a knee injury, is set to return tonight. The play runs through August 24.

John Proctor Is The Villain, in its first week without original star Sadie Sink, took a noticeable dip of $447,791 to $681,014. While attendance at the Booth remained SRO, the average ticket price dropped from from $178 for Sink’s final week to $108 last week.

Sell-outs for the week were & Juliet, Buena Vista Social Club, Hadestown, Hamilton, John Proctor is the Villain, Just in Time, Maybe Happy Ending, Sunset Blvd., The Outsiders and Wicked. Coming within a percentage point or two were Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Death Becomes Her, Oh, Mary!, Operation Mincemeat, Purpose and The Lion King.

In all, the 29 Broadway shows last week grossed a combined $33,847,950, up about 3% from the previous week and 13% over last year at this time. Total attendance was 257,595, down a tiny 1% from the previous week and up 6% year-to-year. Average ticket price for the week was $131.40.

Season to date, Broadway, in the 8th week of the 2025-26 season, has grossed $309,617,807, up about 12% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 2,384,136 up 9%.
