Survivor 47, Episode 5 Recap: The Scales Be Tippin

Survivor 47 just keeps getting better. Tonight’s episode kept us on our toes. Loyalties shifted, new power players emerged, and one castaway was forced to pick a side.

If you missed the fun, we’ll bring you up to speed.

Here is everything that happened on Survivor 47, Episode 5, “The Scales Be Tippin.”

Brief Overview of Survivor 47, Episode 5

Episode 5 was full of action. Rome continued to cause chaos among the Lavo tribe but this time, there were consequences. While his previous impulsive decisions have benefited his game, he may have gone too far this time. He told Sol about private conversations he had with his number one ally, Genevieve. Now that she doesn’t trust him, there is no one protecting the castaway with nine lives.

A Reward Challenge granted seven castaways access to the Survivor Sanctuary. They ate food, played games, and threw their tribe members under the bus.

Gata lost the Immunity Challenge and was sent to Tribal Council. Sierra and Sam weighed their options but ultimately decided to blindside Annika and keep the always-unpredictable Andy in the game.

Keep reading for a detailed recap of tonight’s episode of Survivor:

    Teeny recovers after Lavo blindside

Tonight’s episode began with the Lavo tribe recovering from Tribal Council. Last week, Kishan kissed his Sole Survivor dream goodbye when his master plan to eliminate Rome backfired. He made the mistake of confiding in Genevieve, who saw the value in keeping a wildcard like Rome around. She flipped the vote and convinced Rome to use his Steal a Vote to put the nail in Kishan’s coffin. The strategic move got the attention of fans at home. She is one to watch.

Aside from Kishan, Teeny was the most affected by the vote. Kishan was her number-one ally. She tried to smooth things over with Rome but had little success. He no longer trusts her. If Lavo loses the Immunity Challenge tonight, Teeny better watch her back.

    A reward challenge is introduced…

Tonight’s episode featured a unique Reward Challenge. The castaways were split up into two teams to compete in a challenge. The winning team would be granted access to the Survivor Sanctuary, allowing them to socialize with their winning teammates while eating hot dogs and enjoying other leisurely activities. I’ve never seen a group of people so excited to barbeque and play cornhole. Some of them were on the verge of tears.

The Survivor Social Hour is a game changer. Aside from the journeys to the summit, the castaways have not had a chance to socialize with players outside their tribe. With the merge quickly approaching, that time is vital.

The Yellow team wins the challenge, which means Rachel (Gata), Sam (Gata), Sue (Tuku), Caroline (Tuku), Tiyana (Tuku), Kyle (Tuku), and Teeny (Lavo) are headed to the Sanctuary. The Blue team members head back to their Tribe camps without reward.

The Survivor 47 Sanctuary is open

At the Survivor Social Hour, Teeny takes full advantage of being the only member of Lavo present. She explains how she was blindsided and feels as though she is at the bottom of her tribe. Tiyana uses the opportunity to talk sh*t about Gabe and his addiction to searching for Idols. Tiyana better be careful because Sue is not fond of this play. In a confessional, she criticizes Tiyana for putting a target on her ally’s back. I think it is unlikely that Caroline and Sue flip on Gabe. Maybe this would be a great move to make at the Merge, but we’re not there yet. Tiyana still may have to survive a Tuku Tribal Council and it’s not looking good for her right now.

Sue tells Sam that she heard that he and Sierra rule the roost over at Gata. Naturally, Sam is concerned by this and worries that his close bond with Sierra could be making him a big target.

Rome can’t stop gossiping about Survivor 47 castaways

Back at Lavo’s camp, Rome (unsurprisingly) is doing way too much. He pulls Sol aside and tries to convince him to target Teeny. Dude, you lost a Reward Challenge, not an Immunity Challenge. You can chill for a bit. Unfortunately, he doesn’t stop there. He tells Sol that Genevieve said she doesn’t want to work with him long-term. Sol feels betrayed and confronts Genevieve about his conversation with Rome. Genevieve is annoyed that Rome told Sol that she views him as a short-term teammate. She is starting to realize that she cannot reel in Rome’s chaos. She sees the value in keeping a loyal ally, but she is also starting to see what a dangerous and chaotic player he is. If he becomes more of a liability than an asset, she’ll cut him loose. Careful, Rome.

Gata tribe loses Immunity and Sierra faces a crossroads

The Gata tribe loses the Immunity Challenge. They will face Tribal Council tonight. Back at camp, Annika and Rachel reveal they want to vote for Andy. He slowed them down during the challenge and they see him as a liability at this point. Sierra is confronted with a difficult decision. She is aligned with the girls and the boys. She can appease Sam and vote out Annika or vote out Andy and continue working with the girls. It’s a tricky choice.

Sam has wanted Annika out for a while but he is worried about how Andy will react to his Immunity Idol. He’s kept it a secret from his ally. He has to play the Idol tonight or it expires. Andy is a loose cannon, but he’s their loose cannon lol. I hope Sam and Sierra realize the benefit of keeping him and breaking up a duo.

At Tribal, Sam decides not to play the Idol. He, Sierra, and Andy vote for Annika, blindsiding her and Rachel. Annika is stunned when the votes are read. She was sure it would be Andy’s head on the stick tonight. I love this game. The blindsides just keep coming.

While I’m happy to see my chaotic king Andy live another week, I’ll miss Annika. She was a smart, savvy player who deserved to make it to the merge.

TELL US – WHAT DID YOU THINK OF TONIGHT’S EPISODE OF SURVIVOR 47? DID YOU WANT ANNIKA OR ANDY TO STAY?
